Fluid-Structure Interaction Analysis

Coupled analysis with Abaqus/STAR-CCM+ for more realistic CAE.

Around us, various physical phenomena such as fluids, structures, electromagnetic fields, and acoustics are intricately intertwined to form a "multiphysics" environment. To accurately capture these phenomena in CAE, it is necessary to model them while considering multiphysics. In this context, the functionality and performance of software and hardware continue to improve rapidly, establishing a foundation for coupled analysis that takes multiple physical phenomena into account. Due to demands for cost reduction in product development and shorter development cycles, the need for improved accuracy and practical application of CAE is increasing daily. Therefore, at IDAJ, we provide a comprehensive support for multiphysics CAE by simultaneously proposing Abaqus and the general-purpose thermal fluid analysis program STAR-CCM+. By combining Abaqus and STAR-CCM+ for coupled analysis, we achieve more realistic and accurate analyses.

High-altitude space natural ventilation analysis

We will conduct a natural ventilation analysis of buildings with high ceilings during the summer and in calm conditions.

The analysis of natural ventilation in large spaces examines the natural ventilation of buildings with large spaces during summer and calm conditions. In large spaces, there is often a trial-and-error approach to maintaining a comfortable temperature distribution by relying not only on air conditioning but also on natural ventilation. During summer and transitional periods, the temperature distribution within the space often stratifies, with higher temperatures at the top due to solar radiation and wall conduction. Therefore, if there are openings at the upper part, density-driven convection can occur, allowing hot air to be expelled outside the building. In recent thermal environment analyses, if the size, position, and opening ratio of the openings are known, it is also possible to directly calculate the ventilation airflow rate. For more details, please download the catalog.

Natural ventilation analysis with wind.

We will conduct thermal airflow simulations in the basic design phase plan.

In recent years, there have been many cases where natural ventilation utilizing outside air is actively incorporated during the intermediate period and other times. Among these, a ventilation method that uses shafts installed within the building as exhaust and supply air systems has been considered from the basic design stage to efficiently carry out natural ventilation. The selection of appropriate locations and sizes for supply and exhaust openings is of great importance, and conducting thermal airflow simulations allows for insights into the overall operation of the building. In this analysis, we assumed windy conditions and conducted thermal airflow simulations based on the plans from the basic design stage. For more details, please download the catalog.

Building Natural Ventilation Analysis

We conducted ventilation analysis of structures such as eco voids and eco shafts.

To reduce air conditioning load, natural ventilation that actively circulates outside air into the building is effective. Recently, incorporating structures such as eco-voids and eco-shafts into the basic design stage for efficient natural ventilation has gained attention. At that time, the size of the openings for bringing in outside air and their installation positions must be appropriate. In this analysis, we conducted ventilation analysis to examine the relationship between opening conditions and ventilation states. We modeled the target building and accurately reproduced the internal and external spaces of the building. For more details, please download the catalog.

Train passing airflow analysis

We analyzed the airflow when the vehicles pass each other using the moving boundary problem.

It is known that there are significant fluctuations in speed and pressure before and after trains pass each other in narrow spaces such as tunnels and subway stations. This is very important for the design of vehicles, tunnels, and associated structures. In this analysis, we simulated the airflow and pressure fluctuations affecting the surroundings when the vehicles pass each other, using a moving boundary problem. Analysis of air conditioning in the foundry.

We conducted an air conditioning analysis of the factory interior space with ventilation from outside during calm conditions.

The air conditioning analysis within the casting factory was conducted to assess the air conditioning of the factory space with external ventilation during calm conditions. In facilities such as factories, functionality such as air conditioning performance and ventilation efficiency takes precedence over design. When considering the ventilation and air conditioning performance of the factory space, even if the ventilation and air conditioning airflow is set according to the heat generation of each section, the movement of air between sections does not guarantee that the living area is always maintained at the specified temperature. Therefore, careful consideration of the nozzle arrangement and airflow settings is necessary. For more details, please download the catalog.

Cooling tower thermal flow analysis

A thermal flow analysis considering external wind and humidity (water vapor movement) was conducted.

The thermal flow analysis of the cooling tower was conducted to predict white smoke generation during winter for a large 8-cell unit, taking into account external wind and humidity (water vapor movement). There are many thermal flow devices related to building equipment whose characteristics and behaviors are not well understood. The cooling tower is one of them, but by precisely setting the structure, flow conditions, and thermal conditions of each cell of the cooling tower, it becomes possible to reproduce the thermal flow state quite accurately. Analysis of the thermal environment in a warm water pool

Conducted air conditioning analysis during heating when cold drafts from the circular roof glass surface became an issue.

The analysis of the thermal environment in a warm water pool focused on air conditioning during heating, where the cold draft from the circular roof glass surface becomes a problem. The temperature distribution in large spaces tends to be more disturbed compared to smaller spaces. This is generally because large spaces are more prone to uneven wall infiltration and heat loads, making it difficult for the conditioned air to circulate in the occupied zone. Recent air conditioning analyses have become capable of accurately simulating actual properties, including the three-dimensional shape of the structure, the behavior of supply and return air, and various heat loads. For more details, please download the catalog.

Analysis of Air Conditioning in Cold Storage Warehouse

An example of a freezer equipped with an automatic transport system was provided, and an air conditioning analysis was conducted.

The air conditioning analysis in a refrigerated warehouse was conducted using an example of a freezer equipped with an automatic conveyor. Air conditioning analysis has traditionally been performed in large spaces such as atriums and domes, but recently it has increasingly been applied to specialized spaces as well. Examples include automated warehouses, clean rooms, underfloor air conditioning, displacement systems, and food factories, each of which often has stringent air conditioning performance requirements, making it difficult to set equipment specifications. The analysis of the wind environment around the Namba Oi Mansion examined the impact on the wind environment in the neighboring area, focusing on a residential complex located in the urban area of Ota Ward, Tokyo, during the summer (southwest wind) and winter (north wind). Issues related to wind environments (building wind) frequently arise with the construction of relatively low-rise condominiums, around 10 stories, primarily in Tokyo. The situation is such that a building of about 30 meters in scale will be constructed in an area densely populated with single-story buildings (approximately 6 meters high). Therefore, if the planned building is positioned in a way that obstructs the wind paths of the block, there are concerns about the deterioration of the surrounding wind environment.
