Today, I would like to take a different perspective and introduce the "Fiber Module," an optional feature of ANSYS Fluent. This module allows for the modeling of melt spinning and dry spinning processes in fiber production. It can simulate various physical phenomena such as the solidification of molten liquid and volatilization by coupling the standard CFD mesh of Fluent with an independent one-dimensional mesh (grid) for the fibers. There are three methods for spinning: melt spinning, dry spinning, and wet spinning. Currently, simulations possible with ANSYS Fluent and the Fiber Module are limited to melt spinning and dry spinning. By considering the interaction between the surrounding fluid calculations and the fiber calculations, it is possible to obtain flow fields and temperature fields of the surrounding fluid that change with the flow of the fibers, as well as local information about the fibers that changes with the surrounding fluid. However, starting in the early 2000s, they began benchmarking for cooling simulations and conducted various verifications over several years. ↓ As a result, they decided on Fluent, which has high accuracy and can reproduce complex phenomena, from among many CFD codes. ↓ Previously, evaluations were done through prototypes and in-vehicle experiments, which resulted in significant losses if something went wrong. ↓ Now, thermal evaluations can be conducted before the prototype vehicle is created, significantly shortening the development cycle and reducing the number of prototypes.
