Coupled analysis with Abaqus/STAR-CCM+ for more realistic CAE.
Around us, various physical phenomena such as fluids, structures, electromagnetic fields, and acoustics are intricately intertwined to form a "multiphysics" environment. To accurately capture these phenomena in CAE, it is necessary to model them while considering multiphysics. In this context, the functionality and performance of software and hardware continue to improve rapidly, establishing a foundation for coupled analysis that takes multiple physical phenomena into account. Due to demands for cost reduction in product development and shorter development cycles, the need for improved accuracy and practical application of CAE is increasing daily. Therefore, at IDAJ, we provide a comprehensive support for multiphysics CAE by simultaneously proposing Abaqus and the general-purpose thermal fluid analysis program STAR-CCM+. By combining Abaqus and STAR-CCM+ for coupled analysis, we achieve more realistic and accurate analyses.

basic information
■STAR-CCM+ has a high affinity with Abaqus and is equipped with features that strongly support fluid-structure interaction analysis. By using dedicated software specialized for fluid and structure, highly accurate fluid-structure interaction analysis can be achieved. ■The Data Mapper is a function that imports Abaqus models into STAR-CCM+ and maps Abaqus results. The mapped physical quantities are used as boundary conditions to perform analysis with each solver. Due to file-based data mapping, coupled analysis with reduced computational costs is possible. ■This function allows for direct coupling by exchanging data while STAR-CCM+ and Abaqus are running simultaneously. It can be applied to problems where fluid and structure mutually influence each other, enabling stronger coupling.
