The thermal flow analysis of the cooling tower was conducted to predict white smoke generation during winter for a large 8-cell unit, taking into account external wind and humidity (water vapor movement). There are many thermal flow devices related to building equipment whose characteristics and behaviors are not well understood. The cooling tower is one of them, but by precisely setting the structure, flow conditions, and thermal conditions of each cell of the cooling tower, it becomes possible to reproduce the thermal flow state quite accurately. 【Analysis Model】 - The number of grids is 190×82×45=701,100. - The external wind can be set to be drawn in from the bottom of the cell, undergo heat exchange, and then discharged as high-temperature, high-humidity air from the top of the cell through a fan. - To accurately reproduce the surrounding velocity distribution, the grids are designed to be fine around the planned building and coarser as they move away. - Wind speed conditions apply a power law to approximate real-world conditions. 【Analysis Results】 - Analysis results for winter (north wind) when wind blows in the direction of the 8-cell series, where white smoke generation is considered to be most intense. - Analyses are also conducted for wind directions perpendicular to the cell series and for oblique wind directions. - At each cell's outlet, there is evidence of entrainment from the external wind, so the high-temperature air discharged from the fan is not uniform. - The cells on the downwind side rise to a higher position with the discharged high-temperature air compared to the upwind cells directly exposed to external wind (temperature 0°C). - The humidity distribution in the space above and behind the cooling tower is expressed in three dimensions. ● For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.
