[DX Case Study] Reforming the Work Style of Office Workers

A case where data on work records for about 40 people over two weeks was easily obtained!

We would like to introduce a case study of a company that has implemented digital transformation (DX) in its efforts to reform the working style of office workers using the "Continuous Time Analysis Method." At NX/NP Logistics, a logistics company dealing with home appliances and precision machinery, video recording was used to measure the working hours of office workers. However, after three days of video recording, only one day's worth of work records for two or three employees could be obtained. To address this, smartphones equipped with the app "Jobtan," a tool for measuring working hours, were distributed to approximately 40 staff members. This allowed for the easy collection of two weeks' worth of work record data from all 40 employees. [Case Overview] ■ Challenge: It took time and effort to convert work records into numerical data. ■ Result: The content of overtime work for sales administration, employees' work skills, and previously individualized tasks became clear, enabling concrete business improvements to be undertaken in response to these challenges. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

[Jobtan Introduction Case] Nakayo Corporation

An example of visualizing the movements of water purification in a cell production line (parts supply operations).

We would like to introduce a case where "Jobtan" has been implemented at Nakayo Co., Ltd., which is involved in the manufacturing of communication equipment. The company has been analyzing the movements of workers to improve the productivity of production cells, but they had not been able to grasp the current situation of indirect operations, specifically the water management tasks. As a result of the implementation, they were able to understand the work content, work time, and movement range of the water management tasks, which were previously not visible from an external perspective. [Results] ■ It became clear that tasks that should not take much time were taking longer, and that certain staff members were experiencing a heavy workload, allowing for the consideration of improvement measures. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

An attempt to evolve into a logistics platform that survives the 2024 problem.

Cooperation required between shippers and logistics operators against the backdrop of the 2024 issue.

The "2024 Problem," which has been widely covered by mass media and has become well-known to the general public, has finally arrived, and as someone involved in logistics, I have been anxiously awaiting this moment. In May, in the context of the 2024 Problem, two logistics laws were amended, mandating efforts to improve logistics efficiency and the clarification of contract terms related to truck transportation for shippers and logistics operators. This legal amendment is expected to promote improvements in business practices that have long hindered logistics efficiency, and as the next step after many companies have already implemented logistics efficiency measures, "cooperation between shippers and logistics operators" is anticipated. Additionally, with the contract terms for truck transportation becoming clear among stakeholders, it is expected that the requirements that were previously addressed by the actual transportation operators in response to the requests of the consignee will be improved through discussions among the general contractor, the shipper, and the consignee. *For more details on the blog, please refer to the related links. Easy! Create complicated manuals with AI!

Create a "basic framework" for the work manuals of the warehousing and manufacturing industries using AI.

A manual (procedure document) for business is essential for standardizing operations and improving efficiency. However, creating a manual can be surprisingly challenging. It involves identifying work processes, refining the text for clarity, and designing a layout that is easy to read. Doing this in the midst of daily tasks can be time-consuming, and it is not uncommon for processes to be added or updated while the manual is still being created. The core reason for the difficulty lies in the fact that identifying work processes is a challenging task, but a significant factor is also the time spent on creating the "basic framework" regarding the format and structure of the manual. If we have a framework in place, it should be relatively easy to create the manual in a fill-in-the-blank style. Therefore, I would like to have AI create the "basic framework for the manual." *For more details about the blog, you can view it through the related links. Industries face the 2024 issue: Regarding the formulation of voluntary action plans.

Explanation of the "policy package for logistics innovation" and the "voluntary action plans" for commercial types and fields.

The 2024 issue facing the logistics industry may limit truck drivers' overtime hours, which could have a serious impact on the overall operational efficiency of the industry. In response to this issue, the government has announced a "policy package for logistics innovation," aiming to optimize the operational efficiency across the entire industry. In light of this, 27 industry organizations have developed "voluntary action plans" based on the government's policy package to address the issue. This article analyzes the efforts of various industries to shorten transportation times, evaluates each organization's "voluntary action plan" from the author's perspective, and offers personal suggestions. *For more details about the blog, please refer to the related links. What are the obstacles to promoting DX in the logistics industry?

A clear explanation of issues related to initial costs and running costs!

The "Comprehensive Logistics Policy Outline (2021-2025)," which is the foundation of Japan's current logistics policy, states that "the thorough optimization of the entire supply chain through the promotion of logistics DX and logistics standardization (achieving simple and smooth logistics)" is the first pillar. However, according to the 2023 DX White Paper, the actual situation is that the logistics industry's DX initiatives are less than 20%, which is low compared to other industries. Additionally, a survey conducted in March 2021 found that over 60% of logistics operators do not plan to pursue DX initiatives in the future. Why is that? *For more details, please refer to the related links. Feel free to contact us for more information.*

Efforts to ensure the safety of elderly individuals in the warehousing industry.

To prevent labor accidents among the elderly and ensure employment. An explanation of the elderly population and employment conditions.

Recently, I have been seeing a lot of content on the internet focused on securing funds for retirement. It seems that many conclusions suggest that "working as long as possible" is a fundamental strategy for securing retirement funds. The reasons for elderly people continuing to work in society are not solely for financial support; rather, they may include personal motivations such as "working is good for health," "it prevents aging," "the work itself is interesting," and "it allows them to utilize their knowledge and skills." From my own observations, I feel that in recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in the presence of elderly individuals who appear to be working on morning and evening commuter trains. In fact, reports indicate that the number of elderly workers has been steadily increasing. Amidst the issues of labor shortages due to declining birth rates and an aging population, elderly workers are becoming increasingly valuable. *For more details about the blog, you can view it through the related links. Lecture Report: Women's Contributions in the Field of Logistics

Explaining why female managers are necessary and the barriers women face in aspiring to management positions!

On February 16, 2024, I participated in the hybrid event: CRE Forum, the 100th commemorative symposium on "The Role of Women in the Logistics Field," and I would like to report on its content. The empowerment of women literally means enabling women to thrive, but it does not necessarily refer to women aiming for or becoming managers. "Diversity" includes not only diversity in gender, age, race, nationality, disability status, sexual orientation, religion, beliefs, and values, but also diversity in career, experience, and work styles. *For more details on the blog content, please refer to the related links. Series NX Research Institute President Talks About 6 New President History and Greetings

Introduction and a blog post about the air cargo industry at the end of the Showa era!

Our blog started in May 2015 with a post by the then-president titled "Nittsu Research Institute Newsletter - Rojitasu." In that blog, it was mentioned, "The other day, I stopped by an izakaya run by a former professional baseball player. As usual, I started with a beer. The mug I held had the phrase 'You have to swing the bat for hits to be born' printed on it. We swing the bat, but for our readers, it may be difficult to find articles that are truly hits. Could you bear with us a little? Occasionally, there might be a well-hit ball that flies out. We hope you will join us." I don't know how many hits have been made so far, but I have also decided to carry on the spirit of my predecessors. Although I am not very good at writing, I have resolved to write a blog from time to time. This time, I would like to share a self-introduction and reminisce about the air cargo industry during the end of the Showa era, recalling memories that I had almost forgotten. I would be grateful if you could spend some time with me. *For more details about the blog, please refer to the related links. Feel free to contact us for more information.*

Logistics in Thailand - Transportation Edition (1)

A detailed introduction to the logistics situation in the Kingdom of Thailand, particularly regarding transportation, in a blog format!

The 2024 logistics issue in Japan marks the beginning of restrictions on the working hours of logistics workers, prompting various transformations. While there is an active movement towards automation in developed countries, what about developing countries? Japan continues to experience a declining population, and if nothing is done to stop it, the overall labor force in Japan is clearly set to decline. There is already a significant reliance on inbound tourism and foreign workers, and it is necessary to acknowledge diversity while also incorporating automation and labor-saving measures. On the other hand, I would like to know whether the working conditions for logistics workers in countries with growing populations are undergoing similar transformations as in Japan or if they are following a different trend. In this article, I would like to discuss the logistics situation in Thailand, where many Japanese companies have established operations, particularly focusing on transportation. *For more details, please refer to the related links. Reconsidering the Understanding and Response to the "2024 Logistics Problem" (1)

If this continues, there will be a shortage of transportation capacity, leading to the inability to transport! An explanation of the still insufficient specific measures will also be provided.

The "2024 Logistics Problem" has been increasingly mentioned in general newspapers, web articles, and on television lately. However, the correct understanding and specific responses to it are still far from sufficient. Therefore, I would like to take the opportunity to discuss the "2024 Logistics Problem" in several installments. *You can view the detailed content of the blog through the related links.
