NR-Power Lab, in collaboration with Nagai City and Okitama New Power, has started a demonstration of a renewable energy visualization system in all elementary and junior high schools in Nagai City. All eight elementary and junior high schools in Nagai City operate with 100% renewable energy for their electricity consumption, and monitors have been installed in each school to display the amount of electricity consumed, the status of power generation, and the amount of CO2 reduction in numerical and graphical formats. NR-Power Lab will start the development of a hybrid storage facility with sharing capabilities called "StorageHub." This project aims to establish a business model that provides a one-stop service from the construction of the storage facility to its operation and services. Additionally, we are considering the establishment of a company that will own and manage StorageHub in collaboration with NGK Insulators and Daiwa Energy Infrastructure. NR-Power Lab will begin a demonstration aimed at the practical application of VPP services at the Ricoh Environmental Business Development Center. Within the center, a solar power generation system and NGK Insulators' large-capacity storage system NAS battery will be installed to conduct technical verification of NR-Power Lab's VPP system. Additionally, Ricoh Japan will participate as a power retailer, and the Ricoh Environmental Business Development Center will participate as a power consumer, aiming to acquire VPP know-how to maximize economic efficiency. The city of Ena declared itself a Zero Carbon City in March 2022 and was selected as an "SDGs Future City" in May of the same year, leading efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a city, we aim to establish a mechanism for the circulation of the economy and resources within the region, striving to create a self-sufficient and sustainable community. Our main objectives include promoting the introduction of locally produced energy and ensuring the resilience of the community during disasters. To achieve this, we are collaborating with NGK Insulators and Chubu Electric Power Miraiz to participate in Ena Electric Power. Since its establishment, we have been able to implement zero-carbon events by using locally produced energy and strengthening disaster prevention capabilities through the construction of regional microgrids powered by solar energy. This document is a monthly report on the Kyushu economy. First, from a macro perspective, I would like to focus on the "self-sufficient and decentralized society," which has gained attention in recent years due to changes in Japan's social and industrial structure. In pursuit of realizing a self-sufficient and decentralized society, I will focus on solar power generation, which is expected to play a significant role in the energy sector, and outline its importance and the challenges to its realization. One of the challenges in promoting the use of renewable energy (renewable energy) derived from sources like solar power throughout society is the time and effort required to objectively prove the distribution and utilization of renewable energy. To address this challenge, we have proposed the establishment of a common data infrastructure called "Renewable Energy Data Infrastructure," which will record the entire distribution of renewable energy through cooperation across the electricity industry, thereby proving its distribution and utilization. Ricoh Japan supports customers in achieving decarbonization through services such as the sale of renewable energy and energy management systems (EMS) that optimize lighting and air conditioning. To propose and practice the solutions offered to customers, Ricoh Japan is advancing initiatives such as the Nearly ZEB transformation of its own business locations and is disseminating practical examples to the market. The GREEN ENERGY PROJECT by NGK Insulators is a one-stop solution that supports customers in addressing various energy challenges faced by local governments. We provide optimal proposals tailored to the customer's phase, including financing, planning proposals, engineering, VPP, and digital power services.

Recently, the term "energy resource aggregation business" has come into use. (Refer to business association information) Energy resources broadly refer to any devices or systems that handle energy, including the following: (1) "Use": Demand equipment <air conditioners, production equipment, etc.> (2) "Reduce": Energy conservation <EMS control, equipment replacement, etc.> (3) "Create": Power generation equipment <renewable energy, cogeneration, etc.> (4) "Store": Energy storage equipment <batteries, electric vehicles, etc.> (5) "Receive": Procurement <receiving renewable energy, etc.> (6) "Convert": Conversion equipment <heat pumps, hydrogen production devices, etc.> NR-Power Lab aims to provide two services in total by operating bundled energy resources: "VPP (Virtual Power Plant) service" "Electricity (*) digital service" (* data utilization contributing to GX centered around electricity) In other words, since its establishment, NR-Power Lab has been advancing the business development of what is now referred to as the "energy resource aggregation business."

NR-Power Lab is promoting the development of a "Virtual Power Plant" service, realized through energy resource management, primarily through charging and discharging instructions for batteries, in collaboration with Sassor. By forecasting the power consumption and generation of each consumer, it automatically controls batteries and EVs to maximize economic efficiency. It is also possible to respond to demand response (DR) during times of electricity demand pressure by predicting the demand and supply within local communities and controlling the charging and discharging of batteries and EVs at each facility. Through automated control of DR in response to commands (Auto DR), it provides a SaaS service for Virtual Power Plants (VPP), which can be applied to reduce electricity procurement costs for power companies and mitigate imbalances.
