A hammer weighing 63.5 kg is continuously dropped from a height of 500 mm, and the number of impacts (Nd value) for every 200 mm of penetration is measured up to a depth of 30 m. It is equipped with a torque measurement mechanism for surface friction correction and can be approached in narrow spaces of about 1.5 m in width using an automated self-propelled small machine. A correlation conversion formula with the N value of the standard penetration test (equivalent to N value 50) is used to conduct a high-precision evaluation of allowable vertical bearing capacity.
