We would like to introduce a case in which we re-framed an old hanging scroll into a frame at our store. It was a valuable hanging scroll by a renowned artist, but it had been stored for many years without proper ventilation, resulting in significant yellow spots and stains on the entire paper. Since the customer wished to have it framed, we removed as many stains as possible and re-framed it into a style that would be easy to hang in both Japanese and Western-style rooms. [Case Overview] ■ Before Framing - It had been stored for many years without proper ventilation, resulting in significant yellow spots and stains on the entire paper. ■ Framing - The customer requested it to be framed, so we removed as many stains as possible and re-framed it into a style that would be easy to hang in both Japanese and Western-style rooms. *For more details, you can view the related links. Free membership registrationWe would like to introduce a case where we refurbished a rather old frame that was hanging in a large room of a mansion we worked on. The painting was in a state where it was not very clear due to years of dust, humidity, and UV exposure, and the backing and edges were quite damaged. After cleaning, we reinforced the back of the original paper with sturdy washi, replaced the mat with gold leaf and the backing, and added acrylic to the edges to prevent aging as much as possible. The painting, which had been dull and hard to see, was revived, and the client was very pleased. 【Case Overview】 ■ Before Refurbishment - The painting was not very clear due to years of dust, humidity, and UV exposure, and the backing and edges were quite damaged. ■ Refurbishment - After cleaning, we reinforced the back of the original paper with sturdy washi, replaced the mat with gold leaf and the backing, and added acrylic to the edges to prevent aging as much as possible. *For more details, you can view them through the related links. Free membership registrationWe would like to introduce a case in which we disassembled a two-panel folding screen and framed it into a single picture frame. This very valuable two-panel folding screen has been cherished by a long-established traditional inn since my grandfather's time, but the edges were damaged and the hinges were worn. At the request of the owner, we carefully unrolled the main paper, washed it several times to remove soot, re-backed it, and connected the two paintings. We chose a red lacquer frame to match the color of the obi worn by the maiko in the artwork. 【Case Overview】 ■ Before Framing - The two-panel folding screen was very valuable, but the edges were damaged and the hinges were worn. ■ Framing - Disassembled the two-panel folding screen and framed it into a single picture frame. - Selected a red lacquer frame to match the color of the maiko's obi in the artwork. *For more details, please refer to the related links. Free membership registrationAt our store, we have replaced the shoji screens in the tea room located on the top floor of a certain major manufacturer's office building with high-quality handmade washi paper. While large sheets of washi paper are available today, in the past, only small sheets were used, which led to a method of installation called "danbari" (stone wall style) that intentionally showcases the seams to create a beautiful pattern. The tea room, which we paid particular attention to, still employs this method of installation. [Case Overview] - The shoji screens are installed using the "danbari" (stone wall style) method, which intentionally showcases the seams to create a beautiful pattern. - The tea room, which we paid particular attention to, still uses this method. *For more details, please refer to the related links. Free membership registrationWe have replaced the shoji screens in the main hall of a temple in Kamigyo Ward, which has been under our care for many years. The shoji screens, which were rusted and stuck, weighed over 100 kg each after removing the hanging hardware. We had to call in three fellow craftsmen from the same industry to help us take them down. Early in the morning, I asked a friend who is a shoji craftsman for assistance, and with three people, we managed to get it done. The shoji screens were cleaned of years of grime and looked refreshed and beautiful, much to the delight of both the head priest and his wife. [Case Summary] - Replacement of shoji screens that had not been changed for about 50 years - Returned to the shop to retrieve protective materials and properly covered the area before working on-site - Made multiple trips with a bucket to wipe down the fittings and allowed them to dry for a full day and night under the original locations *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. Free membership registrationWe received a request from a customer living in a high-rise condominium in Nishijin to fully renovate their home, including the replacement of fusuma (sliding doors) and shoji (paper sliding doors). While it was possible to replace the edges and frames of the existing fusuma and shoji, they were made of aluminum sash, and despite not changing color over the years, the customer had felt a sense of discomfort for some time. Therefore, they opted for new ones instead of just replacing them. From the initial inquiry, the customer expressed a desire for "checkered authentic fusuma," and they strongly preferred natural materials. As a result, the fusuma was made of authentic materials, and for the shoji, they chose hinoki wood with unbleached washi paper in its natural color. [Case Summary] - Cutting the masu (squares) uniformly and applying decorative paper results in a more beautiful finish. - When applying glue, the way the paper stretches varies depending on its properties, so this needs to be considered during application. - The design matched well with the wallpaper, and the client was very pleased. *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. Free membership registrationAt Adachi Hyouguten Nansoudou, we recently created a "Kyoto Karakami Fusuma" adorned with Kōetsu butterflies for the partition of a tea room. Among the woodblocks used for printing Kyoto Karakami, there are not only single-pattern designs but also pairs of patterns like this, which create a broader visual effect. Additionally, it exudes an elegant and pleasant atmosphere. We can also propose such patterns. 【Case Overview】 ■ Creates a broader visual effect with non-single patterns ■ Exudes an elegant and pleasant atmosphere *For more details, please refer to the related links. Free membership registration"Orikouka" is a lampshade made by folding washi processed paper like origami to create a vibrant design. The washi processed paper features traditional patterns printed with woodblocks by craftsmen from Kyoto, and the Kyotobougu artisans add creases to fit the shape and perform the folding and mounting. Without a wooden frame or other structural support, it is three-dimensionalized solely with washi processed paper, allowing for a beautiful and vibrant expression of folds. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.
