[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] McLain Sheet® Road Shoulder Slope

Case Study: Measures Against Weed Intrusion into Agricultural Land Using Asphalt-based Weed Control Sheet "Macrain Sheet(R)"

◆Customer Issues◆ - We received complaints about weeds from the slope encroaching into the rice fields at the bottom of the slope. - Weeds on the shoulder were also encroaching onto the sidewalk, obstructing pedestrian passage. ◆Points for Sheet Selection◆ - Due to strong winds blowing down from the mountains and the nature of the slope, there were concerns about the sheets being blown away. Therefore, we selected a heavy McLean Sheet®. - To ensure the sheets are securely fixed, we used longer L-shaped anchor pins, φ9mm×300mm. - To suppress weeds from the base of the support posts, we used a weed prevention rubber coat. ◆Customer Feedback◆ - There has been no issue with the sheets being blown away by the wind, and after three years since installation, they are effectively suppressing weeds. - Weeds on the sidewalk have also been controlled, allowing pedestrians to pass safely. - Weed prevention measures have been thoroughly implemented up to the base of the posts, maintaining the landscape.

[Case Study by Issue] Measures Against Uprooting of Weed Control Sheets by Snow Plows

Have the edges of the weed control sheet ever been torn and frayed by the bucket or tires of a snow plow?

As a measure against weeds, weed control sheets are utilized in various locations. Particularly along roadsides, where the proliferation of weeds can obstruct the view of drivers and pedestrians, making it dangerous, weed control sheets are commonly used. In areas with snowfall, when introducing weed control sheets along the roadside, there is a risk that the snowplow's bucket may catch the edge of the sheet, or the tires may roll over the edge, causing the sheet to tear and lift. As a countermeasure, one method is to lay the weed control sheet before asphalt paving and cover the edges of the sheet with asphalt during the paving process. This is an example of using polyester weed control sheets, taking advantage of the property that polyester has a higher melting point than asphalt (approximately 260°C). *For detailed construction methods, please contact our company.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] GU Sheet Residential and Waterway Slope

Case Study: Weed Control on Slopes Using the 20-Year Durable Weed Barrier Sheet "GU Sheet"

◆Customer Concerns◆ The slope next to the waterway. Since it faces residential areas and fields, regular grass cutting was being carried out. In some places, there were areas surrounded by fences or with steep inclines, making the work dangerous. In areas right next to the waterway, care was taken to ensure that the cut grass did not fall into the water, which made the work more labor-intensive. ◆Customer Feedback During Construction◆ - The sheet was soft and conformed to the uneven ground, making installation easier. It was also easier to handle the treatment of structures like concrete. - There were markers for the positions to install the pins, which shortened the work time.

Case Study: Improvement of Traffic Obstruction on Roads and Sidewalks and Reduction of Grass Cutting Work Using the 20-Year Durable Weed Control Sheet "GU Sheet"

◆Customer's Issue◆ The weeds that had grown thickly along the slope by the prefectural road were falling onto the sidewalk and roadway, obstructing passage. Due to the slope, annual grass cutting was difficult and labor-intensive. ◆Points for Sheet Selection◆ - A highly flexible weed control sheet that adapts well to uneven surfaces - A weed control sheet with a long lifespan Since these were the customer's preferences, we proposed the "GU Sheet," a high-durability weed control sheet designed for 20 years. ◆Customer Feedback◆ By using long anchor pins (φ9mm×400mm), we were able to securely fix the sheet even in soil where the pins did not hold well. The sheet had printed markers for pin placement, eliminating the need for prior marking and saving time. Additionally, the sheet was soft and conformed well to the uneven ground, making installation easy.

[Weed Control Sheet Installation Case] Wind Uplift Measures (Using Hurricane Net)

We will introduce a site that used "Hurricane Net" as a countermeasure against wind lifting of weed control sheets.

The main cause of weed mat peeling is "wind entering from the edges of the mat." To prevent wind from getting underneath the weed mat, it is important to eliminate gaps at the edges of the mat. If the edges are against a concrete structure, you can use adhesive to seal the gaps, but in the case of bare ground, adhesive cannot be used. Therefore, we recommend using a "Hurricane Net" to secure the edges of the mat. The "Hurricane Net" is 455mm wide, allowing for a strong and secure attachment of the weed mat.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] High Durability Vine Guard Method - Roadway

Case Study: Measures Against Climbing Weeds Using the "High Durability Climbing Guard Method"

Weeds have crossed over the fence and invaded the roadway. Additionally, the entire fence is covered with weeds, resulting in poor visibility. ◆ Customer Concerns ◆ - Grass cutting needs to be done 2 to 3 times a year, incurring management costs. - Weeds entangled in the fence cannot be cut with a mower, requiring manual cutting or hand removal, which is labor-intensive. - Weeds wrapping around the fence lead to "decreased visibility" and "poor sightlines." Furthermore, it can hinder airflow, potentially damaging the fence itself. ◆ Customer Feedback After Installation ◆ - Weeds on the sheet can be easily peeled off, making grass cutting much easier! - Since a net has been installed, the vines no longer come out onto the roadway! (Reduction in complaints from local residents!) - Good visibility can be maintained for a long period! * The vine guard method includes a 10-year durability vine guard method and a 20-year durability high-durability vine guard method. The current site has installed the high-durability vine guard method.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] Vine Guard Method - Fence Next to Residential Land

Case Study: Measures Against Climbing Weeds Using the "Tsuru Guard Method"

The creeping vine weed, kudzu, has proliferated on the slope next to the residential land, invading the neighboring properties over the fence. When kudzu grows abundantly, it deteriorates the landscape and attracts insects, so frequent mowing was necessary. ◆ Customer's Concerns ◆ - Mowing was dangerous because the area was a slope. - Mowing needed to be done 2 to 3 times a year, incurring management costs. - Removing kudzu tangled in the fence was labor-intensive. - When kudzu wrapped around the fence, it obstructed visibility and airflow. ◆ Customer Feedback After Installation ◆ - In the year of installation, I didn't have to mow at all. The frequency significantly decreased in the following years! - The kudzu that grew on the sheet was easy to peel off, making mowing much simpler! - The visibility is always good, and it feels pleasant! * The vine guard method comes in two types: a 10-year durability vine guard method and a 20-year high-durability vine guard method. The current site has the vine guard method installed.

[Weed Control Sheet Installation Example] Chigaya Sheet(R) School Route

Case Study: Reduction of Mowing Frequency Using Chigaya Sheet®

◆Customer Concerns◆ - The grass cutting area was on a slope, making the work dangerous. - Due to it being a school route, there were many requests from the local community, and we ended up doing grass cutting ourselves more often than we contracted out to a service provider. ◆Customer Feedback After Construction◆ - Since the site is easily visible from a distance, we considered the aesthetics and used "Chigaya Tape," made from the same material as the sheet, resulting in a beautiful finish. - We are able to effectively suppress the grass, so we would like to extend it to areas where it has not been laid in the future. - The asphalt at the edges of the sheet was rough, making it difficult to secure the sheet properly, raising concerns about it peeling up. However, we were suggested the "Macrain Sheet." After a trial installation, it has been secured without any peeling. Additionally, the gray color blends well with the pavement, which is great.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] Weed Control Rubber Coat at the Edge of Block Stones

Case Study: Weed Control at the Edges of Uneven Structures Using Anti-weed Rubber Coating

◆Customer Concerns◆ - Weeds are thriving from the edges of the block stones. Since this is a visible area in front of the station, we want to keep it clean. - During the weed growth season, we request mowing from the Silver Human Resources Center twice a month. ◆Material Selection POINT◆ - For weed prevention in joints, we usually use "joint barrier sheets (L-shaped)," but due to the uneven surface of the block stones, installation of the sheets is difficult. We selected a weed prevention rubber coat that can be applied to any shape. ◆Customer Feedback◆ - Even after four months, we are able to effectively suppress the weeds, maintaining the appearance of the area in front of the station. - The frequency of mowing during the hot season when weeds thrive has decreased, resulting in reduced management costs.

[Case Study] High-Durability Weed Control Sheet "Chigaya Sheet(R)" 10-Year Progress Case

Introducing a site where over 10 years have passed since the installation of the high-durability weed control sheet "Chigaya Sheet(R)". We are pleased to present a valuable collection of case studies covering 29 locations without omission.

Chigaya Sheet® is a highly durable weed control sheet that effectively suppresses robust weeds, with a proven track record in public works. This time, we have compiled a case study to confirm whether our company's guideline of a "10-year lifespan" for Chigaya Sheet® is appropriate, allowing everyone to verify it through actual sites. It has become a very valuable collection of case studies featuring 29 locations. Currently, the quality and performance of weed control sheets are judged based on the quality standards set by manufacturers, and in actual sites, the expected effects may not always be achieved. Through this case study collection, we hope you can understand that the "10-year lifespan" of Chigaya Sheet® is appropriate and that our method of indicating lifespan is reliable. ★We will send the case study collection to anyone who requests it. Please contact us with the request "10-Year Case Study Collection." *We have also attached a "Simplified Version - 10-Year Case Study Collection" in PDF format on the same page, featuring four selected cases. Please feel free to download and take a look.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] Take Guard Method - Underground Root Barrier

We will introduce examples of underground root prevention using the "Take Guard Method."

The bamboo guard method is a technique that suppresses the growth of bamboo (bamboo shoots) from above. However, in some cases, there may be a desire to suppress not only the surface but also the underground bamboo roots. In such cases, we recommend installing a "subsurface root barrier" by folding a 2-meter wide bamboo guard sheet in half and setting it up in an L-shape both vertically and horizontally. The case we are introducing this time is based on a consultation we received stating, "Bamboo growing on a cliff along a public river is invading private land and causing trouble, so we want to block not only the surface but also the underground roots." We proposed the subsurface root barrier of the bamboo guard method. *Excavation will require heavy machinery.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] Chigaya Sheet(R) Around International Port Facilities

Case Study: Using Chigaya Sheet® for Weed Control as a Countermeasure Against Terrorism Around International Port Facilities

◆Customer Concerns◆ - Around international port facilities, it is desirable to maintain clear visibility around the fence as a counter-terrorism measure, in accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulations concerning the security of international port facilities. However, even after mowing, weeds quickly grow back, making it difficult to maintain visibility when weeds are overgrown, which is not favorable for the security of international port facilities. ◆Proposal Points◆ - By laying down a Chigaya sheet around the fence, visibility can be consistently improved, and long-term labor for mowing can be reduced. - To suppress weeds growing from the gaps between concrete curbs and pavement joints, the sheet was extended to the road-side pavement, and it was secured with adhesive and asphalt pins. ◆Customer Feedback After Installation◆ - The areas where the sheet was laid have maintained good visibility without the need for mowing, allowing compliance with regulations. - We would like to continue using it.

【Weed Control Sheet Construction Example】High Durability Climbing Guard Method - Roadway in the Park

Case Study: Measures Against Climbing Weeds Using the "High Durability Climbing Guard Method"

The overgrown kudzu on the slope within the park has entwined itself around the fence and invaded the roadway. This has reduced the width of the roadway, causing inconvenience to visitors coming to the park. ◆ Customer's Concerns ◆ - The kudzu has crossed over the fence and invaded the roadway, reducing its width. - Weeding the kudzu tangled in the fence has been difficult. ◆ Customer Feedback After Construction ◆ - The slope is now effectively controlled with a sheet, and there is no longer any kudzu entangling the fence, making maintenance easier. - The visibility of the fence has improved, enhancing the overall landscape. * The vine guard method includes a 10-year durable vine guard method and a 20-year high-durability vine guard method. The current site has installed the high-durability vine guard method.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] ★Renewal★ Strong Grass Joint Sheet

Case Study: ★Renewal★ Strong Grass Joint Sheet

In the past, with the materials and methods used, when there were significant unevenness or height differences in the pavement joints, the strong grass joint sheet would float above the pavement. Additionally, it was difficult to apply, leading to poor workability. However, by changing the materials and methods this time, it has become applicable even to joints with unevenness and height differences. Furthermore, using a roller for pressing has improved workability. Previously, both adhesive and sealing materials were used, but now it is possible to achieve adhesion and sealing with just "Adhesive D Touch." Additionally, the process of spreading the adhesive on the sheet with a notched trowel has been eliminated, resulting in a reduction of tools and less mess when applying the sheet.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] McLain Sheet(R) + GU Sheet

Case Study: Weed Prevention on Rough Asphalt

◆Customer's Concerns◆ - The asphalt pavement at the edge of the sidewalk was rough, allowing weeds to grow and obstructing passage. - Weeds were also growing through the gaps in the erosion control sheet that had already been laid on the slope, invading the sidewalk and hindering passage. ◆Construction Points◆ - Since the rough areas of the asphalt were about 0.5 meters wide, we adjusted the width by cutting the Macrain® sheet with scissors to fit the site during construction. ◆Customer Feedback After Construction◆ - The weeds in the asphalt pavement have been suppressed, and the widened path has made it more comfortable for pedestrians and cyclists to pass. - Weeds were growing through the gaps in the slope, but this construction has addressed the gap issue, effectively controlling the weeds on the slope as well. - The gray color blends well with the asphalt, enhancing the overall appearance.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] Maclean Sheet(R) + Chigaya Sheet(R)

Case Study: Weed Prevention on Rough Asphalt

◆Customer Issues◆ - The edges of the asphalt sidewalk were uneven due to weeds breaking through, narrowing the passageway. - Weeds growing on the slope next to the sidewalk were invading the sidewalk through the gaps in the fence, further narrowing the path. - I wanted to cover the asphalt areas where weeds were breaking through with a weed control sheet from above, but I couldn't find a solution because regular weed control sheets deteriorate when stepped on by pedestrians. ◆Proposal/Construction Points◆ - We proposed using Chigaya Sheet® for the slope area and Maclean Sheet® for the asphalt part of the sidewalk. - By thermally welding the Maclean Sheet®, we eliminated the lifting at the edges, reducing the risk of the sheet curling and pedestrians tripping. ◆Customer Feedback After Construction◆ - By using Maclean Sheet® for the sidewalk, we were able to address the weeds breaking through the asphalt while allowing pedestrians and bicycles to pass, thus widening the path. - By combining Chigaya Sheet® instead of laying the entire area with Maclean Sheet®, we achieved cost savings.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] Take Guard Method Underground Root Prevention 2

We would like to introduce examples of underground root prevention using the "Take Guard Method."

The bamboo guard method is a technique that suppresses the growth of bamboo (bamboo shoots) from above. However, in some cases, it may be necessary to suppress not only the surface but also the underground bamboo roots. In such cases, we recommend folding a 2-meter wide bamboo guard sheet in half and installing it in an L-shape both vertically and horizontally, which we call "subsurface root prevention." In this particular case, the pathway facing the slope where bamboo is growing was not paved, creating a risk that underground bamboo rhizomes could invade and lead to the emergence of bamboo (bamboo shoots) from the pathway. By adopting the subsurface and surface installation (L-shaped installation), we have ensured the pathway's safety and reduced the risk of fallen bamboo from the slope. *Excavation will require heavy machinery.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] McLain Sheet® Near T-Junction

Case Study: Improvement of Intersection Visibility Using Asphalt-based Weed Control Sheet "Maclean Sheet(R)"

◆Customer Concerns◆ - There were complaints about poor visibility due to overgrown weeds at the T-junction where the prefectural road and city road intersect. Additionally, the poor visibility posed a risk of accidents. ◆Sheet Selection Points◆ - We adopted McLean sheets as they are 'high durability' and less likely to 'curl up.' - Since it is near an intersection, curling of the sheet could lead to accidents, so we used 'Hurricane Net' at the edges of the sheet. - For the edges that are on concrete, we used concrete pin sets to ensure they are securely fixed, not just welded. - We used 'Weed Prevention Rubber Coat' near the utility poles to address weed issues from the edges. ◆Customer Feedback◆ - Even after one year, weeds have been effectively suppressed. - There has been no curling of the sheets due to wind, allowing for safe passage.

[Weed Control Sheet Failure Cases] Learning from Failures to Choose the Optimal Materials

We will introduce auxiliary materials that enhance weed control effects to resolve the issue of "this shouldn't be happening..."

To fully demonstrate the effectiveness of weed prevention, it is necessary to select and install appropriate materials. 【Case 1】Weeds from the edges of concrete Simply fixing the edge of the sheet with pins will leave gaps. By firmly adhering the sheet to the concrete with "Attach," "Uretouch," or "D Touch," you can prevent weed growth. 【Case 2】Weeds from overlapping parts of the weed prevention sheet Even if the sheets overlap by more than 10 cm, weeds can still grow through slight gaps. You can prevent this by adhering with "Attach," "Uretouch," or "D Touch," and additionally using "adhesive tape." 【Case 3】Weeds from the edges of structures Around structures, the weed prevention sheet should be installed with cuts. Please use "adhesive tape" on the cut areas and "weed prevention rubber coat" at the edges of the structures. 【Case 4】Weeds from pin installation areas Please use "adhesive tape (slit type)" at the pin installation areas. When applying, it is important to press firmly; otherwise, weeds may emerge from lifted areas of the seal, so caution is necessary. 【Case 5】Weeds penetrating through Depending on the type of sheet, some weeds with strong penetrating power may break through.

[Weed Control Sheet Construction Example] NEO Sealing - Joint Under Guardrail

Case Study: [New Product] Weed Control for Joints Under Guardrails Using NEO Sealing

◆Site Conditions◆ - The landscape was compromised due to overgrown weeds. - There were supports around the joints, making it labor-intensive when using sheet-type weed control materials. ◆Impressions After Construction◆ - The surface of the NEO sealing hardened quickly, requiring frequent leveling work. (This may vary depending on weather and site conditions.) - One month later, during the peak of weed growth, it has been effectively suppressed. This leads to a reduction in the labor required for weeding that was previously done every time weeds appeared.
