The "Take Guard Method" is a technique for suppressing the growth of bamboo, which was released in 2022 after three years of development. We would like to introduce the state of the site where our technology development department has been conducting tests since before the launch of the "Take Guard Method." ★ The site introduced this time differs in some auxiliary materials from the current "Take Guard Method" due to it being a test installation. Vining weeds have emerged from the boundary area adjacent to the ground and the condominium. These vining weeds have wrapped around the multi-story parking lot, causing machinery to malfunction. ◆ Customer Concerns ◆ - Complaints from the condominium manager due to the machinery malfunction. - The boundary area is narrow, making it difficult to mow the grass. - Increasing the frequency of mowing would lead to higher maintenance costs. ◆ Key Points of Construction ◆ - Since the width of the boundary area is narrow, a weed control sheet was laid out over the entire area to minimize frequent access. - The soil was excavated, and the weed control sheet was laid under the fence. - To prevent vining weeds from emerging through the gaps in the weed control sheet and entangling with the fence, a vine guard net was installed. * The vine guard method includes a 10-year durable vine guard method and a 20-year high-durability vine guard method. The current site has installed the vine guard method.

There are two reasons for failing with weed control sheets. One is "not using the necessary materials," and the other is "not knowing the correct installation method." The installation of weed control sheets is simple in terms of the process, which involves spreading the sheet, driving in fixing pins, applying tape, and applying adhesive. However, each step has its key points. We will introduce examples of failures that occurred when people simply "laid it down" without knowing these points. Weed control sheets are widely used for measures against weeds along roadsides, slopes, and around facilities. However, during the typhoon season from September to October, we often hear about issues where strong winds cause "the edges of the sheet to catch the wind, causing the entire sheet to flap and tear or lift up." Particularly, the boundary areas (edges) between asphalt and structures are prone to becoming points where wind can enter, leading to "wind lifting." To prevent this wind lifting, there is a method where the sheet is laid down before asphalt paving, and the edges are directly covered and secured with asphalt. This method tightly secures the edges without gaps, blocking the entry of wind and preventing lifting or flapping even in strong winds typical of typhoons. In this method, weed control sheets made of polyester material are used. Polyester has a high melting point of about 260°C and excellent heat resistance, so there is no concern about melting or degradation during the application of high-temperature asphalt. This solution is ideal for sites that are "worried about the annual typhoons" or "especially concerned about strong winds." ◆Customer Concerns◆ - Weeds are thriving in the planting strip on the sidewalk, which is deteriorating the landscape and narrowing the walking space. Furthermore, visibility is also poor, potentially leading to accidents. - As a countermeasure, we had paved the planting strip with asphalt, but in areas where robust weeds were thriving, the weeds have broken through the asphalt. ◆Points for Sheet Selection◆ - We propose using "earth sheets," which are typically used under gravel. By laying the earth sheet beneath the sub-base layer before asphalt paving, we can prevent weed growth from below the pavement. - The earth sheet is made of polyester, which has a high melting point and can withstand the heat of asphalt. (Weed control sheets made of polypropylene or polyethylene with lower melting points will melt.) ◆Customer Feedback◆ - I thought that paving with asphalt would suppress weeds, but in reality, weeds were growing from various places, causing significant trouble. The method of incorporating a weed control sheet beneath the asphalt is relatively easy to implement, so I would like to continue using it in the future.
