Predicting the fatigue life of structures

Until now, numerical analysis methods like the finite element method have been used to predict the state of vibrations. Mode analysis is used as a means to validate the predictions made by the finite element method. Mode analysis involves striking the target structure with a hammer and measuring and recording its vibrational response using a piezoelectric accelerometer, which is then analyzed with a mode analysis system. The recorded time data is converted into frequency data in the form of a transfer function using an FFT analyzer, and the mode analysis software calculates eigenvalues (natural frequencies, natural damping ratios, eigenvectors) through curve fitting, allowing for the visualization of behavior at each frequency through animation.
