Ground reinforcement work | SMD method that reduces site costs with no soil disposal and low noise.
Ground reinforcement work
An environmentally friendly SMD method that achieves both the reduction of surplus soil disposal costs and the protection of the surrounding environment through construction without any generated soil and low-noise rotary penetration.
Ground reinforcement work is an essential construction process to prevent differential settlement and structural damage in soft ground, ensuring long-term durability. The SMD pile method developed by Geotech Co., Ltd. is a small-diameter rotary driven steel pipe pile method that achieves a high level of environmental consideration and cost reduction. The most significant feature of this method is its completely non-discharge construction through self-advancing rotary penetration. Since no construction-generated soil that becomes industrial waste is produced on-site, the disposal costs for surplus soil and the transportation costs for large vehicles from the site can be significantly reduced. The absence of cement milk eliminates the risk of cement scattering and groundwater contamination, and the work can be carried out with low noise and low vibration, greatly reducing noise complaints from neighboring residences. Furthermore, the use of compact construction machinery allows for smooth transportation and pouring even in narrow sites and densely populated residential areas. Under a nationwide construction network and a strict quality control system, we achieve high-quality ground reinforcement at low cost while reducing environmental impact.

basic information
The SMD method is a non-dredging and low-noise rotary insertion technology that does not generate soil treatment, which would become industrial waste. It involves attaching special wings that are 2 to 3 times the outer diameter to the tip of steel pipes with an axis diameter of φ89.1mm to φ267.4mm, preventing core deviation during rotation with the help of a drilling auxiliary bit and inner wings. It can perform turning and casting with small construction machines (such as DHJ06-30), and since it does not use any cement solidification materials, there is no need for a curing period. The maximum construction depth is 130 times the axis diameter (up to 34.8m), making it suitable for sandy and clayey layers. This specification allows for the overall compression of the construction period and a significant reduction in total construction costs.

Applications/Examples of results
The SMD method is extremely effective for new construction and reinforcement work of houses and stores in densely populated residential areas, flagpole lots, and narrow sites where the removal of excess soil is difficult. It is also widely used in nearby environments where there are concerns about the dispersion of cement solidifying agents and water pollution, as well as in residential construction projects that require a short construction period. Safe construction utilizing small construction machinery is possible even in sites under high voltage power lines, those with overhead restrictions, and those close to neighboring property boundaries. It is ideal for situations where cost reduction and clean construction need to be balanced in challenging urban site environments, such as foundation reinforcement for retaining walls, mid-rise steel buildings, and structures with basements.
