Ground reinforcement work | The SMD pile method boasts overwhelming tip resistance and ministerial certification technology.
Ground reinforcement work
The SMD pile method, certified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, prevents initial shaft deflection due to its special inner and outer wing structure, demonstrating immense tip support capacity with a complete blockage effect.
Ground reinforcement work is an essential process to ensure the long-term structural safety and asset value of buildings. To prevent settlement and tilting accidents in soft ground, it is necessary to select reinforcement methods based on reliable ground surveys and analyses. The SMD pile method provided by Geotech Co., Ltd. is a construction method certified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, which uses small-diameter steel pipe piles equipped with special outer and inner wings at the open-type steel pipe tip. During the initial phase of rotary penetration, the inner wing effectively captures soil to prevent axial deviation and maintains high straightness. Upon completion of penetration, the soil inside the pipe is compacted, resulting in a completely sealed state that exhibits extremely strong tip bearing capacity. This unique sealing effect ensures reliable support performance even for soft layers with an N value of less than 15 or cohesive soil layers. Additionally, rigorous product inspections at our factory and thorough construction monitoring using real-time data management devices on-site accurately track and record the stopping depth and torque values. We support the safe foundation of buildings with reliable technical specifications and a robust quality management system.

basic information
The SMD pile driving method is a rotary-driven steel pipe pile method that has obtained certification from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (TACP-0112/0113, etc.). The steel pipes used are STK400 or STK490, with a range of diameters from φ89.1 mm to φ267.4 mm. Special outer and inner wings, which are 2 to 3 times the outer diameter of the steel pipe, are installed at the tip of the pile, and the maximum construction depth can be applied up to 130 times the diameter (up to a maximum of 34.8 m). The applicable ground conditions are sandy soil (including gravelly soil) and clayey soil, with a support layer of strata having a tip equivalent N value of 6 or higher. The use of stable quality pile materials made from blast furnace materials demonstrates excellent structural performance.

Applications/Examples of results
The SMD method is utilized for foundation reinforcement of single-family homes and multi-family residences, stores, and other structures with a building area of 1000 m² or less, as well as for buildings with a design ground bearing capacity exceeding 30 kN/m² or those with basements. It is also ideal for mid-rise buildings (3 to 4 stories) made of steel frames, reinforced concrete structures, and ground reinforcement for retaining walls or structures with a design ground bearing capacity of less than 100 kN/m², where administrative guidance and responses from government offices are strict during the application process. In mid-rise buildings where conventional ground improvement methods result in insufficient bearing capacity and precast concrete piles are over-specified, it achieves safe ground reinforcement that balances excellent economic efficiency with high bearing capacity.
