Prevention of red rust and water leakage in the hot water piping of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in the UK.

Case study of introducing NMR pipe protectors for preventing red rust and extending the lifespan of hotel hot water piping.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel is an elegant five-star hotel located in London. Due to the occurrence of red rust corrosion issues and concerns about leaks in the hot water supply piping (SGP) of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, two units of the red rust prevention and leak prevention device "NMR Pipe Protector" PT-75DS were installed at the header section of the circulating hot water piping. Before the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, the iron content in the water within the hot water piping was 13.35 mg/l, indicating significant progression of red rust corrosion. Four weeks after installation, the iron content in the hot water within the piping decreased to 0.0043 mg/l, and further decreased to less than 0.004 mg/l five weeks after installation. This demonstrated that the progression of red rust within the hot water piping was completely halted by the NMR Pipe Protector, and the existing red rust transformed into insoluble black rust in a volume reduced to one-tenth. It has been verified that if the Mandarin Oriental Hotel continues to use the NMR Pipe Protector, all red rust in the hot water piping will change to black rust, and the cost will be less than one-fifth of the cost of pipe replacement work, allowing the piping to be extended for the lifespan of the building. Naturally, leaks will be completely prevented thereafter.
