The "Corrugated Fin" is a heat transfer fin made by bending thin sheet metal using proprietary equipment. Generally, as the aspect ratio (fin height ÷ fin pitch) increases, the fin thickness becomes thicker and the gaps become smaller. However, by bending thin sheet metal, sufficient gaps can be secured even with an aspect ratio of 20 or more. Moreover, even with a large aspect ratio, the gaps are maintained, making it significantly lighter compared to typical heat sinks of the same size. In this column, we report excerpts from the results of collaborative research conducted with a professor from Mie University regarding the contact thermal resistance during the installation of externally wrapped folding fins on pipes. In this collaborative research, a heater was inserted into the center of a copper cylinder, and experiments were conducted under natural convection conditions with fins wrapped around it. By measuring various points, we evaluated the effectiveness of the fins, comparisons based on the method of securing the fins, and the effects of thermal conductive sheets. However, using pre-coated fins with a typical lifespan of about 5 years in equipment designed for over 20 years in salt-damaged areas poses significant risks. In an example where R-shaped fins with a maximum projection of 330mm were installed as decorative materials on the entire surface of a curtain wall, changing the arrangement emphasized the shadows of the product, creating an interesting expression. Our company has developed an advanced biomass polyolefin spunbond nonwoven fabric (BioALFIN). The production of BioALFIN uses Braskem's Green PE, a biomass polyethylene, allowing for the production of nonwoven fabrics with a biomass content of up to 50%. We have already obtained the biomass mark for grades with biomass contents of 25 and 50, as well as a grade with a biomass content of 10. The nonwoven fabric is classified as combustible waste under the Container Recycling Law. By using biomass raw materials, it is a carbon-neutral material that can help suppress the increase in CO2 concentration in the atmosphere when incinerated. With sustainability as a key concept, it is an environmentally friendly material that we can propose.
