Case Study: Miura City Hall, Kanagawa Prefecture - Introduction of "Ultra-Low Temperature Freezer Monitoring Solution" to Prevent Vaccine Waste ★ Monitoring of Freezer Temperature & Power Supply + Power Backup System (Note 1)
The Miura City Hall is implementing measures to prevent vaccine disposal by utilizing the "Ultra-Low Temperature Freezer Monitoring Solution," a system that automatically monitors temperature abnormalities and power failures in freezers used for storing COVID-19 vaccines. This initiative is featured on their website. The introduction of a system that monitors both temperature and power is a rare effort nationwide. <Purpose of Implementation> To monitor temperature and power abnormalities in freezers and ultra-low temperature freezers (deep freezers) storing COVID-19 vaccines, in order to prevent vaccine disposal accidents caused by power outages, equipment malfunctions, or human errors. <Results of Implementation> The system operated during power outages, allowing vaccines to be stored without compromising quality. Additionally, the vaccine storage environment (internal temperature and power abnormalities) can now be monitored from smartphones and PCs, leading to reduced work time for staff and improved operational efficiency. <Freezers monitored by the system at Miura City Hall> - One unit from Japan Freezer Co., Ltd. - One unit from PHC Corporation *For details about the system, please refer to the product PDF. *For more information, visit our company website or the Ipros introduction page. <Note 1> A 270W freezer with standard configuration has a backup of 2 hours and 45 minutes. We have started a demonstration experiment in Miyoshi City, Tokushima Prefecture, related to IoT.
On October 1, 2019, we began the operation of a demonstration experiment aimed at observing river water levels and rainfall using IoT, which was concluded with the city of Miyoshi. River level sensors have been installed in the Shin Kakutani River, a tributary of the Shirokawa Valley and Butsukitani River flowing through Yamashiro Town, as well as in the Onishi River and Hiura River. Additionally, a rain gauge has been installed on the rooftop of the former Norouchi Elementary School in Ikeda Town. Both areas have experienced incidents that threaten the safety of local residents due to concentrated heavy rainfall in recent years. We hope that the data uploaded to the cloud will serve as a means of disaster prevention and mitigation, such as sending alert notifications to city staff when dangerous data is detected. Furthermore, we sincerely hope that by accumulating data, it can be used as a means to predict and forecast future incidents, thereby avoiding situations such as road flooding due to rising water levels, which could hinder evacuation efforts. We will continue to engage in discussions with relevant parties in the city of Miyoshi and strive to contribute to local disaster prevention and mitigation efforts.
