Vertical Rockfall Protection Fence "Slope Guard Fence Type LR"
High-energy absorption vertical rockfall protection fence "Slope Guard Fence Type LR"
It can accommodate falling rock energy of up to 1200 kJ and can be used in conjunction with measures against collapsing earth and avalanches.
Since it is a pile foundation structure that directly embeds the pillars into the ground, it can be constructed in various locations, including sites with limited installation space and on slopes. The pillars, which have high strength and excellent toughness, have been confirmed through full-scale experiments to be reusable even after capturing falling rocks. Compared to other methods, the need for component replacement after a disaster is minimized, making maintenance easy and reducing costs. ■ Two types available for rockfall energy resistance: 500 kJ and 1200 kJ ■ Vertical protective fence with pile foundation structure ■ Can be combined with measures against collapsing soil and avalanches ■ Easy maintenance after rockfall capture Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism New Technology Information System (NETIS) Registration Number: HR-100008-VR *Registration period has ended "Evaluation Promotion Technology (New Technology Utilization System Study Meeting (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism))" *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

basic information
The Slope Guard Fence Type LR is composed of posts, wire nets, wire ropes, cushioning devices, and wire mesh. It features a hybrid structure that combines horizontally installed wire ropes and wire nets, efficiently dispersing and absorbing the impact energy when falling rocks collide with the barrier. Additionally, since the wire net is also connected to the upper rope, it helps to prevent a decrease in fence height. The remaining fence height after impact loading tests using actual specimens maintained over 85% of the initial fence height. The "Slope Guard Fence Type LR" has been confirmed to meet the performance requirements specified in the technical standards for road earthworks through impact loading tests conducted with actual specimens. The experiments comply with the conditions for performance verification through testing as outlined in the Rockfall Mitigation Handbook (December 2017 revision / Public Interest Incorporated Association Japan Road Association). *For inquiries or questions regarding products or technology, please feel free to contact us.*

Detailed information
-
A hybrid structure that can be used for both debris flow and avalanche countermeasures. The blocking surface of the Slope Guard Fence Type LR is a hybrid structure that combines different components of wire rope and wire net installed horizontally. When a load acts on the blocking surface, the wire rope deforms in response to the deformation of the wire net, efficiently absorbing energy across the entire blocking surface and minimizing the amount of deformation. This hybrid structure can accommodate not only falling rocks but also collapsing debris and snow load.

**Mechanism of Energy Absorption** In the case of impact loads from falling rocks, the load is transmitted to the wire mesh, wire net, and wire rope, dispersing and absorbing energy. Furthermore, when the tension in the wire rope reaches a certain value, the wire rope in the cushioning device located at the ends begins to slip, absorbing energy through friction. Similarly, when static loads such as accumulated soil or snow are applied, the wire mesh and wire net deform, transmitting the load to the wire rope connected to the wire net, which disperses the load across the entire barrier surface. In the case of static loads, if an external force greater than the design load is applied, the cushioning device at the ends activates, dispersing the load through the slipping of the wire rope.

High-strength support member The support member employs a "lotus root-shaped hollow structural steel pipe (LST)" that arranges multiple small-diameter steel pipes or reinforcing bars within an external steel pipe and fills the gaps with mortar. This achieves significantly higher strength and weight reduction compared to conventional concrete-filled steel pipes.
