◆Manufactured by bundling flexible plastic optical fibers ◆Objective part on one end, docking part on the other end ◆Used for identifying unknown objects
Asahi Kasei has developed a POF (Plastic Optical Fiber) that combines spinning technology cultivated through polymer technology and synthetic fibers. Utilizing highly transparent methacrylic resin as the core material and fluorine-based resin as the cladding material, POF is manufactured using the latest technology and is expected to be a promising material for signal transmission and image transmission applications. Plastic optical fiber consists of a core (the central part) made of a high refractive index component, which is covered by a cladding (the outer layer) made of a low refractive index component in a concentric arrangement. Light entering from one end of the optical fiber is transmitted to the other end by repeatedly undergoing total internal reflection at the boundary between the core and the cladding. ● Flexibility Compared to electric wires and other materials, it has excellent breaking strength under bending; however, extreme bends can cause light transmission loss. Please use it within the allowable bending radius for each grade. For wiring with extreme bends, we recommend using Asahi Kasei's "Multi-Core POF," which maintains light intensity even when bent. ● Chemical Resistance Plastic optical fibers can generally be affected by organic solvents, leading to a decrease in light transmittance or mechanical strength, so please be cautious. For adhesive use, we recommend a room-temperature curing two-component mixed epoxy adhesive.

basic information
<Handling Precautions> ●Usage Restrictions Do not use for applications that come into contact with food, or for applications that involve direct contact within the human body, such as catheters or endoscopes. If you intend to use it for medical purposes, please consult with a representative from Opto Science Co., Ltd. in advance. Plastic optical fibers (POF) are made of resin and are not designed to withstand excessive loads. ●High-Temperature Heating Caution Plastic optical fibers (POF) are made of resin, which can soften at high temperatures, leading to the decomposition of some resin components, the generation of flammable gases, and the risk of ignition at high temperatures. Please be careful to avoid dirt or other contaminants on the end face of the POF. ●Storage Precautions To prevent degradation of the performance of plastic optical fibers, store them indoors away from direct sunlight, rain, water leaks, and excessive humidity. ●Disposal Precautions Plastic optical fibers (POF) or POF cables contain fluororesin and polyvinyl chloride resin. When disposing of them, please follow the laws of the country or region where you are located. *The above information is based on currently available materials, information, and data, and may be revised as new knowledge becomes available.
