Nihon Toku Kensetsu Co., Ltd. Technical Introduction: "Restoration of the Collapsed Slope at the National Treasure Kiyomizu-dera"
Geo-fiber construction method that ensures slope safety while considering the landscape.
In September 2013, a landslide occurred on the grounds of Kiyomizu-dera due to heavy rainfall brought by Typhoon No. 18. Kiyomizu-dera has previously experienced landslides caused by record rainfall, and the slopes were restored using the geofiber method. The slopes restored at that time withstood the recent heavy rainfall, reaffirming the superiority of the geofiber method. The geofiber method has also been adopted for the current disaster recovery work. 【Features of the Geofiber Method】 ○ Measures that consider the natural environment → Environmentally friendly slope protection work combining ground reinforcement, continuous fiber reinforcement made of sand and fibers, and vegetation work. ○ Technical review certification obtained (materials and construction methods) ○ NETIS registration number KT-980183-VE, a promoted technology ○ Agricultural and rural development private technology information database No. 0370 For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

basic information
**Overview of the Slope Restoration Work at Kiyomizu-dera Temple** - To preserve the landscape for the long term, restoration without concrete structures is strongly requested. - The geofiber method has been adopted as a measure that takes the natural environment into consideration. - Furthermore, taking into account the seasonal vegetation landscape of Kiyomizu-dera, a diverse range of tree species will be planted in a natural arrangement. - The vegetation in the areas restored in 1999 has been growing well, and by the time 10 years have passed since the construction, a rich natural landscape will be restored, allowing enjoyment of cherry blossoms in spring and autumn foliage. - In September 2013, heavy rainfall from a large typhoon caused landslides in various locations, but no abnormalities were observed in the slopes restored using the geofiber method, proving it to be a disaster-resistant technique. - Therefore, the geofiber method has also been adopted for this restoration work. - To maintain reinforcement effects in the long term, stainless steel rebar that does not rust will be used for rebar insertion work, and ground anchors will be used in conjunction with the slope directly beneath the Koyasu Pagoda. - As before, planting work that considers the landscape will also be carried out. - Currently, the geofiber method is being applied to the restoration and preservation of various cultural properties and historical sites across Japan. Nichitoku Construction Co., Ltd. started its business in the 1940s, focusing on geological surveys and foundation treatment for dams. Since then, the company's strong foundation in geology and expertise in foundation work have been passed down through generations, continuing to be a core aspect of our current operations, which primarily focus on environmental and disaster prevention projects, maintenance and repair, and urban regeneration. Currently, the construction industry environment appears to be improving due to recovery projects from the Great East Japan Earthquake and government initiatives for national resilience. However, we believe that in the medium to long term, the challenges may increase. Amidst this, Nichitoku Construction has completed its medium-term management plan Step I, which aimed at the creation of a new Nichitoku Construction, and Step II, which focused on building a stable foundation. We are now working on medium-term management plan Step III, themed "Challenge for Growth," which aims to establish a business strategy and organization that ensures efficient profit generation while anticipating changes in the future construction market. Under our management philosophy of "contributing to the creation of a safe and secure nation through comprehensive technical capabilities and efficient management in foundation work," Nichitoku Construction is committed to fulfilling its social responsibilities as a company.
