With this single piece, you can conduct tests with 11 lines at 1mm intervals (100 grid tests), 6 lines at 1mm intervals (25 grid tests), 6 lines at 2mm intervals (25 grid tests), 11 lines at 1.5mm intervals (100 grid tests), 6 lines at 3mm intervals (25 grid tests), and X-cut tests (at a 30° angle). Additionally, it can be used for five different applications, including a wet film thickness gauge for measuring the thickness of uncured coatings, a ruler, and a sag tester used for droop tests. The set includes two cutters for JIS-K5600 and JIS-K5400, adhesive tape, and a soft brush.

It is used to evaluate the adhesion and bonding strength of coatings and films. Cuts are made with a utility knife along the cross-cut plate. By making cuts both vertically and horizontally, a grid-like cross-cut is created in the center. Adhesive tape is then applied and quickly pulled off. The state of the coating that has been removed by the tape is classified by comparing it with the examples of test results categorized from 0 to 5 in the JIS standard (JIS-K5600).
