Communication occurs directly from the wireless device to the communication satellite (Iridium's satellite communication network) and back to the wireless device, without going through a ground station. The rental also includes the antenna FA-S102U, belt clip MBB-5, lithium-ion battery pack BP-300, rapid charger BC-241, and AC adapter BC-242 as basic rental components at no additional cost.
