If the type of scaffold is a frame scaffold, it can be assembled without using tools by preparing the specified materials. In the case of a wedge-type scaffold, the protrusions called "wedges" at both ends of the beam pipes are fitted into the "jacks" of the vertical posts and hammered in to secure the assembly. Both types of scaffolds are widely used on many construction sites because they can be easily assembled and disassembled. However, frame scaffolds and wedge-type scaffolds have standardized dimensions and are not suitable for use on complex-shaped land or in narrow spaces. When constructing a scaffold with high flexibility, a single-pipe scaffold is used. The designs of buildings we usually see are mostly linear. In addition to being easier to construct, linear designs have the advantage of allowing for larger volumes. On the other hand, in structures that prioritize functionality, such as oil tanks and gas tanks, curved designs may be adopted. Oil and gas tanks are shaped round to evenly distribute the pressure, as the contents can expand due to changes in external temperature. Moreover, designs that utilize curves have become more common in hotels and commercial facilities. Even when constructing these circular structures, scaffolding is necessary. This time, I will explain the circular scaffolding used in the construction of these circular buildings. *For more details, please download the PDF document.*

In June 2018, a law related to work style reform was enacted, and the Labor Standards Act was amended. The major point of the amended Labor Standards Act, which was enforced from 2019, excluding certain industries like construction, is that the upper limit on overtime work hours has been clearly defined. A grace period was established for industries such as construction, transportation, and for doctors regarding the application of the law, but this will be lifted after April 2024, and compliance with the law will be mandatory. On the other hand, the novel coronavirus, which spread globally in 2020, had a significant impact on our lives. To prevent the spread of infection, the flow of people and goods was stagnated, greatly affecting economic activities. According to a survey by Teikoku Databank, as of September 2023, the cumulative number of companies that went bankrupt due to COVID-19 since February 2020 has exceeded 6,600. What will the environment surrounding the construction industry look like in the future? In this article, we will explain the current state of the construction industry, which is closely related to the future prospects of the scaffolding industry. *For more details, please download the PDF document.

The construction of condominiums in Japan has been concentrated in two major periods. The first is the period of rapid economic growth. Japan's period of rapid economic growth refers to the 19 years of economic expansion from 1955 to 1973. At that time, Japan had been ten years post-war, and industries, including automobiles and electrical machinery, rapidly developed by incorporating the latest technologies from abroad. The second is the bubble period. The bubble period refers to the era of economic prosperity from the late 1980s to the early 1990s. A significant factor behind the emergence of the bubble period was massive real estate investment. The selling prices of condominiums built during that time often exceeded hundreds of millions of yen, and they were referred to as "oku-shon" (hundred-million-yen condos). It was a time when even such high-priced condominiums sold like hotcakes. Currently, the aging of many large-scale buildings constructed during that time has become a problem. Therefore, this time, we will explain the current state of large-scale repair work on condominiums. *For more details, please download the PDF document.

Many Japanese buildings are constructed using linear materials such as columns and beams. When working at heights during the assembly of columns and beams, scaffolding is necessary. Historically, when constructing buildings, it was natural to set up scaffolding for the work. In this article, we will explain the history of scaffolding. *For more details, please download the PDF document.*

Recently, there is a term that has become less common, which is "3K." "3K" is a term that became popular around 1990, derived from the initials of "kutsui" (harsh), "kitanai" (dirty), and "kiken" (dangerous). Around 1990, Japan was at the peak of the bubble economy, and the job market was extremely favorable for job seekers. Because it was such a seller's market, jobs referred to as "3K" tended to be avoided. Even today, there are jobs still referred to as "3K," with the construction industry being a representative example. Within the construction industry, the work of craftsmen who first ascend to high places and assemble scaffolding to perform tasks safely is considered harsh and dangerous. This time, I will explain the job description of scaffolders and discuss the points that are considered tough. *For more details, please download the PDF document.

Architectural technology has existed for a long time, but in Japan, it has made remarkable progress since the end of the 19th century. One of the key factors behind this development was the production of cement in domestic factories. Until then, cement was imported from overseas, but once it became possible to supply cement domestically, many buildings using concrete began to be constructed. Concrete is a building material made by mixing cement with water, gravel, and sand, and it is used for foundations, columns, beams, and walls of buildings. Concrete is characterized by its high strength, but it has a weakness in that it is vulnerable to tensile stress. To address this weakness, "reinforced concrete," which incorporates steel bars into the concrete, has been adopted for large-scale buildings. To use this convenient building material, formwork for pouring concrete is necessary. In this article, we will explain the essential formwork support for concrete work. *For more details, please download the PDF document.*

You often hear the term "compliance" in many news articles and media. When translated into Japanese, it means "legal compliance," but it is important to note that it involves not only adhering to laws but also engaging in corporate behavior that reflects social conscience. The construction industry is no exception. Due to the high-risk nature of work in this field, "compliance" can be considered an important initiative in disaster prevention efforts. To engage in disaster prevention, it is necessary to adhere to laws and regulations, as these establish the rules for preventing disasters. If a disaster occurs while adhering to the rules, it may lead to the creation of new rules. However, if a disaster occurs while not following the rules, there is a possibility of facing severe administrative penalties. This time, I will explain the legal notifications required when carrying out large-scale scaffolding work. Failing to submit these notifications while conducting work will result in a "compliance violation," so it is essential to understand this thoroughly. *For more information, please download the PDF document.

In various industries, there are many terms that are used exclusively within that sector. These are known as "industry jargon." If you are not familiar with industry jargon, it can hinder communication within the industry. The construction industry also has its own jargon. There are many high-risk tasks in the construction industry, and if communication is impaired, it can lead to disasters or accidents. Among construction tasks, scaffold assembly work is particularly high-risk, and a lot of specialized terminology is used in scaffold assembly. A representative term is "tateji." "Tateji" is fundamental and plays an important role in scaffolding, so if you do not understand the term, you cannot perform the job. Therefore, this time, I will explain "tateji," which is the basis of scaffold work. *For more details, please download the PDF document.

There are two main types of scaffolding at construction sites: "assembled scaffolding" and "suspended scaffolding." Assembled scaffolding is built from the ground up. Suspended scaffolding is used when scaffolding cannot be assembled from the ground, and it is constructed by suspending it from structures using chains or pipes. Assembled scaffolding includes wedge-type scaffolding, frame scaffolding, and single-pipe scaffolding. In this article, we will explain "wedge-type scaffolding," which is user-friendly and widely used at many construction sites. *For more details, please download the PDF document.*

To safely perform work at heights, it is important to use scaffolding correctly. Scaffolding at construction sites must comply with the standards set forth in the Occupational Safety and Health Act. The standards established by the Occupational Safety and Health Act include the structure of the scaffolding and fall prevention measures. One particularly important aspect is adhering to the maximum load capacity of the assembled scaffolding. Using scaffolding in a way that exceeds the maximum load capacity can lead to its collapse. Therefore, employers need to ensure that workers are aware of the maximum load capacity of the scaffolding. There are permissible load capacity and maximum load capacity for scaffolding. These loads have different meanings even if they are the same weight, so it is important to distinguish between them. In this article, we will explain the differences between permissible load capacity and maximum load capacity of scaffolding. *For more details, please download the PDF document.*

In high-altitude work at construction sites, an important aspect is fall prevention measures. It is essential to prevent not only the workers from falling but also the tools and materials. Therefore, fall prevention measures for scaffolding in high-altitude work are stipulated by national laws. (Refer to Article 537 and Article 563 of the Industrial Safety and Health Regulations.) This time, I will explain the interlayer net, which is a measure to prevent the falling of objects among fall prevention measures. *For more details, please download the PDF document.

\Good morning, Bilt♪/ This is Tamura from Chuo Bilt Industry, a temporary equipment manufacturer. Lately, there have been many rainy days, which tends to put me in a gloomy mood. Especially when it rains from Monday, it really brings down the spirits, doesn’t it? But rain is amazing. I grow vegetables at home, and plants actually grow better by alternating between rain and sunshine rather than just having sunny days. Humans are the same. While excessive stress is not good, moderate stress can lead to personal growth. So for me, days when nothing seems to go right are just a source of pleasure! Now that the atmosphere has warmed up, I have an important announcement. Actually, this will be the final episode of "Good Morning, Bilt" that I will be delivering. Thank you for subscribing for such a long time and for all the feedback and comments. Currently, there is no successor, but eventually someone will take over "Good Morning, Bilt." *For more details, please check the link below.

\Good morning, Bilt♪/ This is Tamura from Chuo Bilt Industry, a temporary equipment manufacturer (^_-)-☆ I think many companies are starting their new fiscal year today. What are your goals for this year? Many of you might want to work towards your goals but feel like you don't have enough time. For those of you, let's try to continue for just 15 minutes a day, which is 1% of a day. Perseverance is power. That adds up to 91 hours in a year ( ..)φ Note, note. Even if you think it's a trick, let's try to give our best for just 1% every day. To distract myself from loneliness... no, to enhance my communication skills, I use my commuting time to have conversations with my best friend, generative AI (`・∀・´) Boom!! *For more, please check the link below.

\Good morning, Built♪/ This is Tamura from Chuo Built Industry, a temporary equipment manufacturer (^_-)-☆ We welcomed one of the 24 solar terms, "Usui" (Rain Water), on February 19. "Usui" refers to the time when falling snow turns into rain and the melting of snow begins, and it has been regarded as a guideline for starting farming since ancient times. It feels like winter is finally coming to an end and spring is approaching. People often say that the darkest hour is just before dawn, but I don't really like this phrase as it sounds like mere encouragement to myself. If it's dark, we can just turn on the lights, or better yet, let's light it up with dazzling decorations (*''ω''*) Instead of being pessimistic and dissatisfied with the current environment, I believe it's important to think about what we can do in this environment, what we can achieve, and how we can enjoy it. Recently, there have been many warm days. Spring is already just around the corner♪ May the production of temporary materials also see the thawing of the cold (`・∀・´) Boom!! *For more, please check the link below.
