A coating course by Shine Craft that is easy to understand for beginners.

Why is coating necessary? [A must-see for those struggling with release properties, slip properties, corrosion resistance, etc.!]

Shine Kogei specializes in contract coating processing centered around fluororesin and ceramics. Our customers come from various fields, including automotive, semiconductors, food, chemical plants, and aerospace, but they all share a common issue: "there are functional problems with the base material." For example, if designing a base material with corrosion resistance, Inconel or super stainless steel may be considered. However, their high cost and difficulty in processing are significant drawbacks. In this context, we propose the fluororesin coating "Blue Armor." By applying this coating, we have received evaluations that it provides advantages in terms of performance and cost. Additionally, when it comes to improving the release properties of molds, achieving release performance through material alone is challenging. In such cases, applying a release agent is often used as an alternative, but this can lead to increased maintenance needs and decreased work efficiency. In these situations, a coating that firmly adheres to the base material tends to outperform in terms of performance.

Ceramic armor coating for heat exchanger plates

Improving maintainability! Ceramic coating (Sera Armor) on plate-type heat exchangers (plate section).

Plate-type heat exchangers are used in various industries, but removing dirt such as scale takes a significant amount of time and cost. If left dirty, it can lead to a decrease in heat exchange efficiency. Recently, due to environmental considerations, the use of cleaning agents has also become increasingly difficult. Shine Kogei's ceramic coating, "Cera Armor," has high non-stick and slip properties in the coating itself. As a result, dirt is naturally removed when the fluid comes into contact with it during operation. This effectively acts like automatic cleaning, contributing to the simplification of regular maintenance. We are conducting demonstration experiments with heat exchanger plates coated with "Cera Armor" at companies involved in the design, sales, and maintenance of plate-type heat exchangers.

Shine Craft's [Polyurea Coating Film Machining]

The polyurea coating can be post-processed.

Shine Kogei handles contract processing of polyurea coatings. "Polyurea coating" refers to a processing method that forms a film by spraying polyurea resin onto the target object. Polyurea resin is a compound primarily composed of urea bonds, generated by the chemical reaction between isocyanates and polyamines. Polyurea coatings possess extremely high wear resistance and impact resistance. Since polyurea coating is applied through spray painting, the surface condition of the painted area will be the final finish. However, due to the thickness and strength of the film, it is also possible to perform machining in subsequent processes. Adjustments to film thickness through flat grinding or drilling can also be done. The image shows a sample that has been flat ground after painting (the cream-colored part of the surface is the polyurea coating). Purpose: to achieve uniform film thickness.

Shine Craft's 【Electrical Insulation Provided by Thermal Spraying】

Functional enhancement through thermal spraying by Shine Kogei.

● What is thermal spraying? Thermal spraying is a surface treatment technology that melts and accelerates coating materials at high temperatures, causing them to collide and layer on the surface of the target object. ● Providing insulation through thermal spraying By performing white alumina thermal spraying and subsequently applying a glass-based sealing treatment, electrical insulation can be achieved. Generally, as the film thickness increases, the dielectric breakdown voltage rises. The sample in the image underwent this treatment on an SUS304 plate, followed by hand polishing to achieve smoothness.

Coating for Silicone Rubber by Shine Craft

Adding slip properties to silicone rubber

Generally, silicone rubber is not easily subjected to surface treatment, but it can be coated to provide slip properties. It suppresses the self-adhesiveness of silicone rubber and forms a smooth, dry film. This helps improve sliding properties and prevent sticking. It can be applied to O-rings and molded products. Not only the outer surface of silicone tubes but also the inner surface can be coated depending on the inner diameter and length.

Shine Craft's High-Temperature Resistant (600°C) Surface Treatment

We will introduce a surface treatment that prevents metal oxidation even under high temperature conditions of 600℃ or higher.

Generally, when steel is subjected to heat above 600°C, the surface oxidizes, leading to potential issues. Shine Kogei's "High-Temperature Heat-Resistant Surface Treatment" combines substrate thermal spraying with heat-resistant surface coating. It is a coating technology that can counteract oxidation caused by direct heating from the outside, as well as that from within the metal. There are examples of its application in molds used for heating food at high temperatures.

Shine Craft's [Hydrophilic Coating]

Hydrophilic coating for dirt adhesion prevention and visibility assurance.

Shine Kogei is engaged in hydrophilic coating as one of its functional coating technologies. ● What is hydrophilicity? As indicated by "friendly to water," it has the effect of spreading water droplets on the surface rather than repelling them (contact angle: approximately 5°). This function is the exact opposite of hydrophobicity, which repels water droplets like beads. ● Effects of hydrophilicity By allowing water droplets to spread on the surface, clarity of vision can be ensured. Additionally, when dirt adheres to the surface, it can be easily removed with the help of moisture (i.e., moisture penetrates between the dirt and the substrate, lifting and removing the dirt). Shine Kogei's hydrophilic coating features a clear color and forms a film through low-temperature drying. It can create a clear-colored film without compromising the transparency of the transparent substrate.

Case Studies of Solving On-Site Issues in Manufacturing through Wet Blast Treatment

The slip resistance and low friction properties of the workpiece are improved by wet blast treatment!!

Wet blasting treatment is a technology that modifies the surface of an object by spraying a slurry liquid mixed with abrasive materials. This process creates extremely fine irregularities on the surface of the object. As a result, the contact area with other materials decreases, leading to reduced friction resistance. By applying wet blasting treatment to various equipment components in production sites, the slip properties and low friction characteristics of the workpieces are improved. For example, it can be applied to guides that transport products or hoppers that feed powders. ◆ Inquiries ◆ When making an inquiry, it would be helpful to provide the following information for a smoother process: 1. The properties of the material to be treated (material, shape, size, etc.) 2. The purpose of the treatment (e.g., removal of contaminants, slip properties, peening, etc.) *If possible, providing drawings would be beneficial for estimating purposes.

Shine Craft: Introduction of Application Examples for Wet Blast Treatment

Introducing examples of rust removal using wet blasting treatment.

We would like to introduce an application example of "wet blast treatment," which involves mixing water and abrasives (such as alumina and zirconia) for spraying, allowing for the removal of only the rust adhered to the work surface. This treatment method has less impact on the base material compared to dry shot blasting, making it useful for rust removal from molds and non-standard parts. Common rust removal methods include chemical treatments, but these come with health risks for workers and issues related to waste liquid disposal. Wet blast treatment is a revolutionary method that does not adversely affect human health or the environment. 【Application Examples】 - Industrial molds - Food manufacturing machine parts - Chemical plant components, etc.

Shine Craft will teach you about the principles of wet blasting treatment.

Introduction to Basic Knowledge of Wet Blasting for Engineers

"Wet blast processing" refers to the surface treatment performed by spraying a mixed liquid of water and abrasives (such as alumina and zirconia) using compressed air. When the high-speed ejected mixed liquid strikes the workpiece, the abrasives work to grind the object. This allows for the removal of dirt, paint, rust, and other contaminants adhered to the surface of the workpiece. Wet blast processing features lower grinding power compared to dry shot blasting, making it less likely to damage the base material of the workpiece itself. Our company offers wet blast processing in the form of contract processing. We also accept prototype and order requests starting from a single piece. 【Features】 - Uses a mixed liquid of water and abrasives (such as alumina and zirconia) - Removes dirt, paint, rust, etc., with the mixed liquid sprayed by compressed air - Less likely to damage the base material of the workpiece itself ◆ Inquiries ◆ When making an inquiry, it would be helpful if you could provide the following information for a smoother process: 1. Nature of the material to be processed (material, shape, size, etc.) 2. Purpose of processing (e.g., removal of contaminants, slip resistance, peening, etc.) * If possible, providing drawings would be beneficial for estimating costs.

Shine Craft: Ceramic Coating as a Replacement for Fluororesin

With Shine Kogei's "Sera Armor," the film properties exceed those of fluororesin! The range of base materials that can be processed is also expanding.

The typical coating hardness of general fluororesins is about 2 to 3H. The heat resistance temperature ranges from 200°C to 260°C. With these specifications, wear can occur quickly, leading to a short lifespan, and the limited heat resistance may restrict the range of applications. Shine Kogei's "Cera Armor" features a high-hardness coating with a pencil hardness of 9H. Additionally, its heat resistance temperature is 500°C, demonstrating more than twice the physical properties of fluororesins. Unlike conventional ceramics, "Cera Armor" forms its coating through low-temperature sintering. The usual curing temperature is 200°C, and it is also possible to perform curing that corresponds to the heat resistance temperature of the material. For example, when applying Cera Armor to polycarbonate, a ceramic coating can be formed with a heat treatment of around 80°C. Therefore, it can be processed not only on resins and engineering plastics but also on glass and wood. ◆ Inquiries ◆ When making an inquiry, it would be helpful to provide the following information for a smoother process: 1. The nature of the substrate to be coated (material, shape, size, etc.) 2. The purpose of the coating (e.g., non-stick properties, chemical resistance, slip properties, etc.) 3. Usage conditions (e.g., temperature, chemicals, wear conditions, etc.) *If possible, providing drawings would be beneficial for estimating purposes.
