The modification of asphalt is an important technology related to high-performance asphalt products, and fundamental research in this area is essential for the development of modification techniques. The base asphalt has a complex phase structure composed of multiple components, making the measurement of its physical properties difficult. Therefore, it is necessary to consider various factors when developing measurement methods for the physical property analysis of asphalt and modified asphalt. Our company has contributed to the elucidation of the modification mechanisms of asphalt through collaborative research with universities. Here are some of the results. [Elucidation of the asphalt modification mechanism using SBS] - SBS is one of the representative resins used as a modifier for asphalt. - Significant modification effects can be achieved with a small addition of less than 10 wt% of SBS. - Measurements were conducted focusing on the changes in the glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the styrene block and butadiene block of SBS, as well as the maltenes and asphaltenes that are components of asphalt. - It has been clarified that the high molecular weight component asphaltene mainly partially miscible with the PS block. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

It has high strength against tension and tearing, making it difficult to tear easily. Moreover, its greatest feature is the high sealing capability of the nail holes in the asphalt waterproof layer. To maintain this nail hole sealing capability over the long term, it is important to suppress the brittleness that occurs due to the aging of the asphalt and to preserve its flexibility.
