PyroSim・FDS Experience Seminar [Free Event]

Expanding the possibilities of FDS using supercomputers

This is an experiential seminar on the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and its solver, PyroSim. FDS uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD), making its approach applicable to fires of various scales, from stoves to oil storage tanks. It can also be applied to problems that do not involve fires, such as building ventilation. In this seminar, alongside the experiential component, we will also introduce the Public Interest Incorporated Foundation for Computational Science Promotion and conduct a tour of the FOCUS supercomputer and the K computer, with their cooperation.

[Analysis Case] Cogging Torque Analysis of Claw Pole Motors

The subject of analysis is a claw pole motor.

The claw pole motor is divided into the rotor part and the stator part, each having a structure as shown in the figure. By incorporating the magnetization of the permanent magnet obtained through pre-magnetization analysis, the rotor is rotated in an unloaded state to perform torque analysis. Although this is an analysis involving rotation, it can be conducted without regenerating the air mesh of the gap (the space between the rotor and stator) using PHOTON's uniquely developed new slide interface. [Analysis Case] Analysis of PTC Resin Heater

Analyzing the property that the electrical resistance increases as the temperature rises.

PTC resin has the property of increasing electrical resistance as the temperature rises (temperature dependence). We conducted an analysis of a heater that utilizes this property. This heater has the characteristic that as the temperature rises, the intrinsic resistance of the PTC resin increases, limiting the current, so it does not exceed a certain temperature. We will perform a current distribution analysis when a voltage of 100[V] is applied to the electrode terminals of the heater. For more details, please download the catalog.

[Solution] Shape Optimization for Abaqus

Achieve design efficiency in CAE through effective utilization of the Abaqus model!

By using the high-end mesh morphing program 'DEP Mesh Works/Morpher' to modify the shape based on the mesh of the Abaqus model, and by parameterizing it to build automation and optimization systems, we can effectively utilize existing models and significantly reduce the man-hours required for preparing parametric model creation. Furthermore, by integrating with the multi-purpose robust design optimization support tool 'modeFRONTIER', we provide designers with "hints" to understand the phenomenon of "what design is optimal and why" in response to multi-objective optimization problems encountered in design development, such as weight reduction, minimum stress, and minimum displacement. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

Example: Press Processing - Optimization of Press Processing Conditions

Optimize the pressing conditions to improve wrinkle height and strain.

Press processing is a method used in the manufacturing of various industrial products, including automobiles. Since this press processing is often used for mass-produced products, it is desirable to carefully examine the processing conditions in advance using CAE. In this case, we optimized the processing conditions by linking the general-purpose parameter optimization software "AMDESS" with the explicit dynamic analysis software "Abaqus/Explicit Student Edition" (from SIMULIA, USA). We added recommended points based on the density of the data points we had previously investigated! We took measures to avoid falling into local solutions. As a result, we achieved a maximum equivalent plastic strain reduction of 9% while satisfying all constraints. [Analysis Model] ■Blank - Number of nodes: 505 - Number of elements: 400 - Young's modulus: 2.1×10^11 [Pa] - Poisson's ratio: 0.3 *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

[Case Study] Research on LED Heat Dissipation through Industry-Academia Collaboration

It is possible to evaluate the lifespan of LEDs and optimize considering both their lifespan and the cost of the lighting equipment!

We would like to introduce a case where Kitakyushu City University utilized "FloTHERM," "FloTHERM XT," and "modeFRONTIER" for research on LED heat dissipation through industry-academia collaboration. It is often said that when the temperature of an LED decreases by 10°C, its lifespan can double, indicating a close relationship between heat dissipation performance and the lifespan of LED lighting. Therefore, we evaluated the lifespan of LEDs considering the operating conditions of the floodlights and conducted optimization that took both lifespan and the cost of the lighting equipment into account. By integrating "FloTHERM" and "modeFRONTIER," we established an automated and optimized environment using CAE, allowing us to obtain trade-off information between lifespan and cost through parameter studies. 【Features of modeFRONTIER】 ■ A new optimization tool that supports "thinking" ■ Rich in unique methods and functions to meet the needs of design and development sites ■ Highly supported by many users ■ Capable of building a distributed execution environment using multiple machines without relying on general NQS *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
