The largest large-scale shaking table in the country can reproduce seismic motions, such as those from the Great East Japan Earthquake, that are difficult for other companies to replicate with 100% accuracy! In addition to seismic resistance testing, transportation testing can also be conducted.

The Japan Oceanographic Science YOKOHAMA LAB (Isogo Ward, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture) conducts commissioned vibration tests, including the reproduction of various seismic waveforms such as those from the Great East Japan Earthquake. It provides data necessary for strength calculation verification of products requiring seismic performance, including acceleration response spectra, acceleration time histories, displacements, and resonance points, enabling advanced evaluation tests. *Note: Due to a company split, the vibration table business of MTI Co., Ltd. was succeeded by Japan Oceanographic Science Co., Ltd. in April 2022. The shaking table is large, measuring 2.6×6.2m, and can perform 2-hour vibrations with minimal waiting time for multiple vibrations (with a maximum of 123 vibrations per day in the past). It also accommodates real transport vibrations from trailers, railways, and ships, as well as transportation vibration tests according to JIS and ASTM standards. Over the past 30 years, the University at Buffalo (UB) Structural Engineering and Earthquake Simulation Laboratory (SEESL) has played a key role in the advancements of civil structural engineering. The laboratory has conducted high-quality education and pioneering research, and has assisted various industries in the development of codes, standards, and testing methods. Since 1983, MTS has provided SEESL with configurable technologies that can quickly adapt to new testing requirements, as well as ongoing expertise in testing necessary for the laboratory's engineers to pursue new research methodologies. This long-term relationship has enabled SEESL to continuously demonstrate new technologies that improve the accuracy of civil structures and seismic simulations. In 2004, SEESL significantly renovated its facilities, expanding them threefold and integrating a series of state-of-the-art MTS testing equipment. [Case Study] Hydraulic Source and Control Device Upgrade

On June 7, 2008, the research technology applied mechanics lab of Cummins Inc., headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, was affected by flooding. Cummins is a global leader in the design and production of diesel engines and related technologies, offering a wide range of products from 3.3L small engines to 78L high-power large engines. The fatigue evaluation tests for engine components conducted in this lab have long utilized MTS application software, load frames, control systems, actuators, and hydraulic supply systems; however, the flooding completely devastated the load frames, control devices, and hydraulic systems. In response to the recovery efforts, MTS service representatives acted very quickly from the start, rapidly identifying which equipment could be repaired and which needed replacement, and provided guidance on how to restart and resume operations in the shortest possible time. Kajima Corporation, a major general construction company in Japan, possesses advanced technology and know-how accumulated over the years, as well as the industry's leading research institute, and is engaged in technological development and the horizontal deployment of new technologies and methods as a leading company in the industry. Kajima has long regarded shake tables as important experimental equipment for improving seismic technology in earthquake-prone Japan, having introduced its first shake table in 1975. Although it was updated in 1991, it was anticipated that the current performance would not be sufficient to address the demands posed by expected massive earthquakes, long-period earthquakes, and further seismic reinforcement considerations for nuclear facilities due to revisions in national guidelines.
