Frequent "skipping" errors with optical sensors! How can we prevent interference from factors like stray reflections and dust?

At an automotive safety inspection company, the steering wheel rotation angle of vehicles is measured using optical sensors. However, due to issues such as light scattering and dust accumulation, "missed reading" errors occurred, leading to an increase in the number of tests and a significant decrease in work efficiency. There were requests such as "We want sensors that are not affected by disturbances" and "We want to keep the introduction costs as low as possible." The linear encoder system "SI-140 series" that we recommend consists of the magnetic detection head "SIE-140" and the magnetic scale "SIS-140." Installation is as simple as wrapping the "SI-140" around the steering axis of the vehicle. The number of measurement tests, which previously required five times, has been reduced to just two, less than half. An absolute encoder that, like a resolver, is designed for harsh environments and enables 22-bit high resolution and high precision. It is unaffected by condensation, oil, dust, or dirt.

Zettlex Overview and Features - A thin, hollow ring-shaped electromagnetic induction absolute encoder that can be easily and directly mounted on final mechanical rotating parts such as large diameter shafts. It contributes to improving system-level accuracy without the need for gears or reducers. - Can be directly mounted on shafts with diameters from Φ5 to Φ526mm. - Maximum resolution of 22 bits (4.2 million divisions per rotation), with output formats including SSI, BiSS, and other serial outputs. - Composed of two ring-shaped substrates for the stator and rotor, it is thin, lightweight, completely non-contact detection, and has a bearingless structure. - The basic principle is similar to that of a resolver, allowing use in harsh environments such as condensation, oil, dust, dirt, and extreme temperatures. Standard products are IP67 rated, with an optional IP69 rating available. - Offers higher resolution (up to 22 bits) and higher accuracy (up to ±19 seconds) compared to resolvers, and does not require external circuits such as AD converters or multipliers. - Due to the 360° full circumference integral detection, eccentric mounting of the rotor or shaft wobble is always canceled out, having no effect on the output. - Not affected by motor magnetic fields. - Achieves high reliability and durability through a simple substrate structure and components. - Ideal for industrial equipment applications such as measuring instruments, manufacturing equipment, chemical and food plants, civil engineering equipment, machine tools, meteorological observation cameras and radars, and robots.
