Ground reinforcement work | Supporting challenging sites with existing retaining walls and elevation differences using small-diameter steel pipe piles.
Ground reinforcement work
A small-diameter steel pipe pile method that does not exert lateral pressure on existing retaining walls. It enables safe and reliable foundation installation even under harsh site conditions such as elevation differences and proximity to cliffs.
This proposal is a small-diameter steel pipe pile ground reinforcement solution that addresses challenges in harsh site environments, such as properties close to existing retaining walls, irregularly shaped land with elevation differences, and areas subject to cliff regulations. In areas with elevation differences, uneven settlement is likely to occur due to uneven loading on buildings and soil pressure, necessitating careful consideration of the impact on retaining walls. The small-diameter steel pipe pile method uses a rotary penetration method without cement solidifying agents, allowing for installation without applying unnecessary lateral pressure to existing retaining walls, thereby minimizing the risk of landslides and wall damage to zero. By employing a compact and highly mobile specialized construction machine, smooth access is possible even in elevated or narrow areas near retaining walls. With a rich lineup of steel pipes, piles can be installed without soil displacement to depths that reliably exceed the angle of repose, and allowable bearing capacity is calculated based on clear formulas. At Geotech, we ensure thorough management from preliminary site surveys to digital management during construction, with consistent oversight by qualified personnel, guaranteeing safe and reliable foundation installation even in challenging sites.

basic information
This construction method is a rotary penetration pile method consisting of general structural carbon steel pipes with an outer diameter of φ89.1mm to φ216.3mm and special enlarged wings. The applicable conditions are small-scale buildings with up to three stories, a height of 13m or less, and a total floor area of 1,500 square meters or less, as well as retaining walls and structures with a height of 3.5m or less. The maximum construction depth is 130 times the pile diameter (up to a maximum of 19.2m, etc.), and it is suitable for sandy soil, clay, and loam layers. It has obtained a construction technical performance certification (GBRC performance certification), allowing for safe allowable bearing capacity design near retaining walls based on data from SWS tests and standard penetration tests.

Applications/Examples of results
The residential plan adjacent to the existing retaining wall, single-family homes on a stepped site with elevation differences, and ground reinforcement for multi-family housing or stores near slopes subject to cliff regulations are ideal. In particular, it demonstrates its true value in sites where conventional ground improvement cannot be performed due to concerns about lateral pressure on the retaining wall, and in foundation construction on elevated or narrow sites where large machinery cannot access. Additionally, it is widely used for close construction in renovation or expansion projects where retaining wall removal is difficult, and in sites with significant elevation differences from the road, to safely transmit loads to the supporting layer.
