Ground reinforcement work | Geo-column method for building strong columns that adapt to various soil types.
Ground reinforcement work
Powerfully improve complex strata and diverse soft soil conditions! The Geo-Column method demonstrates reliable allowable bearing capacity through deep mechanical mixing and stirring of cement slurry.
To maintain the structural safety and seismic performance of buildings, it is essential to carry out ground reinforcement work suitable for the soil characteristics and geological structure of each site. The Geo-Column method is a deep ground mixing treatment technology that injects cement-based solidifying material slurry into soft ground and mechanically mixes it with a specialized drilling and stirring machine. It accommodates various soil types such as clay, sandy soil, and loam layers, utilizing the hydration reaction between soil and cement to create uniform and strong soil-cement columns (columnar improved bodies) underground. This method demonstrates its effectiveness primarily in sites where soft layers exist at depths ranging from GL-2m to GL-8m, ensuring that the tips of the columns are securely anchored in support layers with a clay N value exceeding 3 and a sandy soil N value exceeding 4, fundamentally preventing uneven settlement accidents caused by the weight of the building or uneven loads. Through real-time monitoring with construction management devices and the integrated system of Geotech Co., Ltd. along with its nationwide network, we provide high-quality foundation ground at all types of sites.

basic information
The design specifications for the Geo-Column Method (Deep Ground Mixing Treatment Method) are a standard column diameter of φ600mm and a construction depth of approximately GL-2.0m to GL-8.0m. The penetration and fixation conditions to the bearing layer are defined as being over 50cm into good ground with a converted N value of more than 3 for cohesive soil and more than 4 for granular soil. Inorganic cement-based solidifying agents are used, with a standard addition amount of at least 300kg/m3 for cohesive soil and at least 250kg/m3 for granular soil. The construction machine is equipped with a management measurement device (such as GEO-MONITOR) as standard, which automatically records penetration and extraction speeds, rotation rates, and slurry discharge amounts in real time.

Applications/Examples of results
This construction method is ideal for reinforcing the foundations of wooden, steel, and reinforced concrete (RC) single-family homes and apartments that are three stories or fewer, under 13 meters in height, and have a total floor area of 1,500 square meters or less. It is regularly arranged beneath strip foundations or slab foundations to prevent settlement and ensure allowable bearing capacity. Additionally, it addresses various foundation reinforcement needs in construction practices, such as sites with embankment fill or uneven soft soil layers, and concentrated load reinforcement at porches and corners. It is widely adopted in small structures with high ground pressure and in various architectural plans that require stable foundation bases.
