Site Investigation | Plate Load Test and Eco Foundation Selection to Reduce CO2 Emissions in Single-Story Logistics Warehouses
Ground investigation
Reducing CO2 emissions from single-story logistics warehouses! Achieving an environmentally friendly eco-foundation design that minimizes material usage by measuring shallow soil bearing capacity through flat loading tests.
From the perspective of ESG investment and promoting SDGs, the new construction project of single-story logistics warehouses is strongly demanding the reduction of environmental impact during construction and material manufacturing, as well as decarbonization. Excessive design based solely on conventional simple surveys, which is overly cautious, has led to unnecessary installation of steel pipe piles and large-scale cement column improvements, resulting in excessive material consumption and CO2 emissions due to a large number of dump truck trips. The plate load test solution provided by Geotech conducts direct loading on shallow ground at the actual construction site, accurately measuring ultimate bearing capacity and deformation coefficients. By obtaining reliable evidence of ground bearing capacity without relying on assumptions, it scientifically supports the adoption of "direct foundations (slab foundations and strip foundations)" while minimizing or eliminating the use of piles and solidifying materials. The reduction of materials and excavation volume, along with a significant decrease in construction vehicles, strongly promotes sustainable logistics warehouse construction by drastically cutting excessive reinforcement costs and environmental impact simultaneously.

basic information
This test will be conducted in strict accordance with the standards of the Japan Geotechnical Society (JGS 1521), and will set up a reaction device such as a hydraulic backhoe that conforms to the site planning load, along with a steel loading plate with a diameter of 30 cm. The loading system will use hydraulic jacks and calibrated high-precision compression load cells, while the displacement system will combine a digital displacement gauge (such as CDP-50) with an automatic data logger to automatically record the settlement behavior. Thorough calibration of the leveling equipment and operational checks will be performed in advance, and an analysis report will be issued that accurately calculates the ultimate bearing capacity, long-term allowable bearing capacity, and deformation coefficient from the measured settlement-load curve.

Applications/Examples of results
It is ideal for the basic design of environmentally conscious buildings (ESG investment and SDGs compliant projects) aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and minimizing material usage in newly constructed single-story logistics warehouses and distribution centers. It contributes to the measurement and evaluation of ground bearing capacity to adopt direct foundations (slab foundations and strip foundations) while avoiding excessive piling work and large-scale improvements, as well as minimizing environmental costs associated with dump traffic and excavation work during construction. Furthermore, it is utilized in various scenarios from planning to design, including the presentation of objective technical evidence to be attached to building confirmation applications and green building certification reviews, as well as proposals for balancing environmental considerations and cost optimization for clients and investors.
