[Municipal Bicycle Parking Case] Solving Bicycle Parking Shortages with Bicycle Parking Zones on Sidewalks

A case example of proposing the establishment of a bicycle parking area utilizing a wide sidewalk.

To the person in charge at Bunkyo City Hall, who has been struggling with the lack of bicycle parking around the station, we would like to introduce a case study that solved the shortage of bicycle parking using bicycle lanes on the sidewalk. Around Korakuen Station, which is very close to Tokyo Dome, there is no substantial land available for use as a bicycle parking area, making the establishment of new parking facilities extremely difficult. We were exploring ways to create bicycle parking within the limited space available. By arranging the bicycle parking machines at sharp angles, we ensured that bicycles could be moved in and out without coming into contact with the tactile paving, and we devised a layout that fits within the limited space.
