The cooling water used in open cooling towers for central air conditioning increases the calcium concentration in the water to about 7 to 10 times that of the make-up water (source water) due to evaporation, resulting in the formation of hard calcium carbonate crystals on the surface of the cooling fins outside the cooling tower, which reduces cooling efficiency.
