Pipe rust prevention: City, University of London introduces NMR Pipe Protector.

The red rust prevention device "NMR Pipe Protector" can be installed externally on pipes without the need for water outage work.

In 2013, the "NMR Pipe Protector" was adopted at City, University of London, a prestigious university in the UK. The air conditioning hot water pipes used SGP (galvanized steel pipes), which led to issues such as brown water due to the leaching of red rust and leaks from pipe joints, necessitating urgent measures to address the deterioration of red rust in the pipes. After the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, the progression of red rust completely stopped within just two weeks. The iron content in the circulating water within the pipes, which was 3.41 mg/l before the introduction of the NMR Pipe Protector, remarkably decreased to 0.08 mg/l. Theoretically, over 75% of the existing red rust was reduced to black rust by the NMR Pipe Protector. This confirmed the effectiveness of red rust prevention. The black rust formed by the NMR Pipe Protector protects the iron from red rust corrosion, and since black rust has a volume that is one-tenth that of red rust, it strengthens the pipe's durability.
