It modifies the concrete to make it denser, sealing the gaps that serve as pathways for the intrusion of deteriorating substances, while simultaneously reacting with the water-soluble alkali substances present within the concrete to stabilize it, thereby suppressing alkali-silica reactions caused by reactive aggregates.
