In the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, while there were buildings that were severely damaged or collapsed in areas with a seismic intensity of 7, WRC structures only experienced minor damage, with just two buildings showing cracks of 5mm in width at the openings, rather than any significant destruction or collapse. It has become somewhat common knowledge among us structural designers that this structural form has extremely high seismic resistance based on past major earthquakes. WRC structures also offer spacious interiors without columns or beams intruding into living spaces, along with high durability, fire resistance, airtightness, sound insulation, and low cost as advantages. Sakura Structures has developed the 'Smart Wall Method,' which maintains these advantages while further pursuing cost efficiency, constructability, and durability. The features of the 'Smart Wall Method' include a wall thickness of 150mm and single reinforcement, achieving low costs. By adopting special concrete and external insulation methods, it also takes crack prevention into consideration. A full-scale experimental building with four stories, a wall thickness of 150mm, and single reinforcement has already been completed next to our headquarters in Sapporo, and we are currently observing its progress.
