Phytoremediation of oil-contaminated soil using highly oil-resistant grass. It is a low-cost, low-burden oil contamination countermeasure that does not require on-site purification or residual soil treatment.

The highly oil-resistant Japanese turf variety "Burning Field" activates root zone microorganisms by being planted in oil-contaminated soil, promoting oil reduction. The turf covers the surface, effectively addressing oil odor and landscape issues. Management during application is almost unnecessary, making it suitable for low-cost, low-impact oil contamination measures in idle lands such as factory sites and former gas stations. Since it does not involve the injection of microbial materials or chemicals or soil mixing, it is a more affordable and environmentally friendly method than bioremediation.
