Signature 1000/500 Multi-functional Flow Velocity Meter ADCP
Signature1000 , Signature500
In addition to conventional multi-layer flow direction and velocity measurement, it is equipped with various measurement options. It can accommodate various observation purposes such as waves, turbulence, sea ice, and echograms, all in one device.
The Signature1000 and Signature500 are lightweight, compact, and multifunctional acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP) designed to meet various measurement needs in coastal areas. Functions such as wave, turbulence, sea ice, and echogram measurements can be freely selected and added later. Echograms can be obtained by using a transducer positioned at the fifth center as an echo sounder, allowing for high-resolution measurement of underwater biomass. With the new AD2CP platform, it is now possible to simultaneously execute multiple measurement functions (patented technology), enabling the acquisition of high-density information in a short period. They are also optimal tools for turbulence observation. Regarding sampling frequency, the Signature1000 has a maximum of 16 Hz, while the Signature500 has a maximum of 8 Hz. It has become possible to analyze parts of the turbulence spectrum that were previously difficult to measure.

basic information
List of Measurement Functions - 4-beam multi-layer average current direction and velocity (standard included, same as conventional ADCP) - 5-beam burst measurement (using vertical beams, high sampling rate measurement) - Wave measurement function (measuring wave direction and wave height) - Echo sounder function (acquisition of echograms, proprietary processing technology) - Sea ice measurement function (ice thickness, movement direction, only for Signature500) - High-resolution (HR) current direction and velocity measurement license (only for Signature1000) By using the AHRS (Attitude and Heading Reference System, optional), real-time correction of measurement position (cell position) due to the device's motion is achieved. This allows for more accurate measurements of current direction and velocity even in environments where the instrument experiences motion. It is effective in marine areas like estuaries where current velocity varies significantly with water depth. By using the HR function, it is possible to obtain current direction and velocity data at a minimum interval of 2 cm (the measurement range of the HR function is between a maximum of 10 cm to 8 m, depending on current velocity). The SignatureVM includes this device as part of a packaged product, sold as an ADCP package for vessel installation.

Applications/Examples of results
Applications: - Research on turbulence - Measurement of biomass - Study of sediment transport - Dynamics of breaking waves - Operation of tidal turbines - Research on tidal currents - Study of fine-scale mixing - Research on sea ice and draft (Signature 500 only) - Navigation observations using shipboard equipment (see Signature VM) - Measurement of directional waves - Research in coastal areas - Ideal for use with wave observation buoys
Detailed information
-
Changes in flow direction and velocity over a 3-minute period in a water depth of 5 meters measured by Signature1000's HR function. The blue color represents a flow velocity of -30 mm/s, while the red color represents a flow velocity of +30 mm/s. It can be confirmed that very complex flows occur in a short period underwater.

Company information
Nortek Japan LLC (Nortek Japan) is the Japanese subsidiary of Nortek AS (headquartered in Oslo, Norway), which manufactures ultrasonic Doppler sensors. We handle the domestic sales of the flow direction and velocity meters, wave meters, and DVL (underwater navigation sensors) produced by the company. Additionally, Nortek Japan offers regular inspections of the products sold (including operational verification work, issuance of inspection reports, and replacement of consumables). Since the work is carried out domestically, we can shorten the return period and reduce overseas transportation costs*. Nortek's products have over 20 years of domestic sales experience and are utilized by environmental survey companies and research institutions both domestically and internationally for research and investigation purposes. Services offered by Nortek Japan LLC: - Product sales - Regular inspections (conducted domestically, including issuance of inspection reports and replacement of consumables) - Sales of various consumable parts, including drive batteries - Various repair services* - Technical support and usage suggestions *For repairs, inspections, and sensor calibration work that require precise inspection equipment, the work will be carried out at the headquarters factory in Norway.
