Introducing technical information about permeable blast furnace slag pavement "Color Sand"!
This document explains the reasons why "permeable and water-retaining pavement materials (color sand)" are strong against "freeze-thaw" cycles. Color sand is a pedestrian pavement material that possesses permeable and water-retaining functions while being sufficiently resistant to the repeated effects of freeze-thaw cycles in winter, making it "strong against frost damage." Among our pavement composition, the "filter layer" made from high furnace slag pavement, which is the aggregate of this pavement material, has a significant effect in suppressing "frost heave" when used alone. Furthermore, in freeze-thaw tests conducted at the Central Testing Laboratory of the Building Materials Testing Center, no cracking or destruction occurred even after completing 200 cycles. 【Excellent Features of the Aggregate (High Furnace Slag)】 ■ Porous Structure - Numerous fine voids relieve pressure caused by volume expansion during freezing. ■ Potential Hydraulicity - The main components of water-quenched slag (silica, alumina, lime, magnesia) solidify over time due to repeated water infiltration. ◎ Sufficiently resistant to the repeated effects of freeze-thaw cycles. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or external link pages, or feel free to contact us.

【Examples of Construction in Cold and Snowy Areas】 ■ Aizutajima Town, Fukushima Prefecture - Construction: Year 2000 - Maximum Snow Depth: 113 cm - Minimum Temperature: -12.3℃ ■ Asahi Village, Yamagata Prefecture - Construction: Year 1998 - Maximum Snow Depth: 245 cm - Minimum Temperature: -15.1℃ Properties that have undergone construction 13 to 15 years ago continue to withstand the repeated freeze-thaw cycles and function adequately as permeable and water-retaining pavements. Additionally, there have been no reports of frost damage in properties constructed in areas that experience sub-zero temperatures during winter in the past. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or external link page, or feel free to contact us.

The permeable and water-retaining pavement materials developed by Sanwa Grand Co., Ltd. allow rainwater, an invaluable water resource for the Earth, to permeate and be returned to the ground, thereby alleviating the "heat island phenomenon" in urban areas during the summer, reviving spring water, promoting the growth of trees and flowers, and regenerating "moisture of water and greenery" in the city, creating a pavement that is friendly to both people and nature. Our company aims to contribute to society as a member of a company that creates a comfortable environment through the dissemination of these environmentally friendly pavement materials, which excel in permeability and water retention. Our pavement materials are also ideal for areas with high social needs, such as "barrier-free," "disaster evacuation routes," "weed control measures," and "school route maintenance."
