The 'Woven Wire Mesh (Japanese Industrial Standard)' specifies woven wire mesh made of annealed iron wire, galvanized iron wire, and stainless steel wire. The mesh is expressed in both mesh units and aperture units, where 'mesh' refers to 'the number of openings from center to center of the wires within 25.4mm (1 inch).' As the particles being sifted become finer, the number of meshes increases. Coarser mesh has higher processing capacity and characteristics such as longer lifespan.
