This document summarizes the development of a new soft ground improvement method using pore water suction and surface load application. The Super Well Point method (SWP) is an improved version of the vacuum deep well technique, which enables efficient drainage of pore water from various types of ground, including cohesive soils, by separating and suctioning pore water and air within the ground. Using this SWP method, we have developed a technique to promote the settlement of soft cohesive soil layers and improve soil properties. As a result of the improvement, applying this method to alluvial cohesive soil layers and introducing air temporarily caused ground uplift, and continued suctioning has shown to promote settlement.
