ADVA Optical Networking Optical Communication Path Monitor
ADVA ALM (Advanced Line Monitor)
Ultra-long-distance compatible OTDR-based optical fiber communication link status monitoring device. Utilizing its features, it can also be applied to various sensing applications with abnormal event detection functionality!
The ADVA Optical Networking's optical communication path monitor ALM (Advanced Link Monitor) can be implemented in existing operational optical fiber communication lines, allowing for unprecedented ease of continuous monitoring of status and health, significantly reducing recovery time from line faults. If every time there is a communication line or network failure, field deployment is required to determine whether it is a communication equipment failure or a line fault, that is not desirable. With the introduction of ALM, real-time continuous status monitoring can be achieved without increasing maintenance personnel or equipment, enabling immediate fault determination regardless of the service or application type of the optical fiber communication path, leading to effective fault recovery operations and reduced working time. Line faults can be quickly identified at their occurrence point and logged. Utilizing these features, it is also possible to expand applications and repurpose existing optical fiber cables for various sensing applications such as intrusion detection and monitoring of important facilities, as well as flood detection and temperature detection in indoor and outdoor industrial equipment. We also provide dedicated sensor head assembly parts. We can prepare measurement software modules and analyze acquired data according to customer requests.

basic information
The measurement distance of ALM is up to 160 km. It can be applied to extensive optical communication lines from access to core, monitoring 16 to 64 lines of optical fiber per unit, using independent monitoring optical signals (wavelength: 1650 nm) that do not interfere with service communication signal wavelengths or traffic. It performs almost real-time measurements using the OTDR method, allowing for the tracing of optical fiber loss profile information due to faults and the identification of fault occurrence points (with a maximum resolution of 1 sampling/min and fault detection accuracy of 10 m). It is an all-in-one unit housed in a compact casing with an embedded OS (Linux) and control software, achieving low power consumption (<10W) and a wide operating temperature range (-5°C to +55°C). All processes are managed via SNMP, and by linking with FSP Network Manager and GIS (Geographic Information System) servers, it graphically and intuitively identifies the locations of line faults.

Company information
Our company started as a trading firm specializing in optical communication devices and subsystems based on optical and electronic applied technologies, with fiber optic sensing systems as our core business as a VAR and integrator. We operate in a wide range of industrial fields, from infrastructure and aerospace to automotive, medical, and consumer sectors. The name "First Light" derives from "dawn" and "first observation light" (as in astronomical telescopes), and we quickly deliver excellent technologies and products with "light" as a keyword to the market. Our core competencies are in electronic circuits and measurement, as well as optical communication and measurement technologies. In collaboration with partner companies, we are expanding our business areas, including software development and sensing data analysis, to flexibly respond to customer needs. Utilizing our network with over 40 advanced technology companies, primarily in Europe and the United States, we serve as a one-stop shop covering not only product sales but also system construction proposals, consultations, and contract testing and evaluation services for optical devices. Our important mission is to solve customer challenges and contribute to society through our business. 【Contact and request for materials: sales@firstlight-inc.com】
