Baba Shoten Co., Ltd. started as a transportation business delivering white soil, the raw material for tiles, and clay used for roofs to local tile roofing contractors. Later, it shifted to manufacturing and selling packaged "blended clay" to roofing material suppliers and contractors primarily in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Subsequently, it developed "Nanban," a mixture of lime, sand, and clay, and further created "Silguard," which adds water repellency (Patent No. 3196058).
