Baba Shoten Co., Ltd. started as a transportation business delivering white soil, the raw material for tiles, and clay used for roofs to local tile roofing contractors. Later, it shifted to manufacturing and selling packaged "blended clay" to roofing material suppliers and contractors primarily in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Subsequently, it developed "Nanban," a mixture of lime, sand, and clay, and further created "Silguard," which adds water repellency (Patent No. 3196058). Today, it has grown into a top-share manufacturer producing and selling these materials at five factories nationwide. "We create roofing materials together with everyone." This reflects our passionate commitment to not being satisfied with our current products and to continuously research and develop better products and methods with everyone. In 2008, Baba Shoten developed the "Dry Type Face Sheet High Roll," a product and method that does not use Nanban (Patent No. 4384725), which has already been adopted by major housing manufacturers and roofing material manufacturers. Baba Shoten will continue to lead the roofs and ridges of Japan in the future.
