Magnesium chloride is a component found in seawater. It dissolves easily in water and is an effective freezing prevention agent even at low temperatures. It can be applied by hand or with a spreading vehicle. It works by generating heat through a reaction and lowering the freezing point, thereby melting snow and ice. When used for snow melting, several times the amount used for freezing prevention will be necessary. Additionally, due to its hygroscopic (liquefying) properties and moisture retention, it can be used to prevent the scattering of dust.
