Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG), based in Cologne, Germany, has utilized a wide range of high-performance testing equipment from MTS Systems Corporation since 2001 to meet the needs of its Formula One vehicle development. In 2009, TMG made the formal decision to make its testing capabilities and the expertise of its dedicated staff available to external customers. Instead of investing time and money into a new testing system, TMG explored ways to extend the versatility of its existing testing systems by modifying software and hardware. Over several weeks, TMG and MTS worked closely together to complete the technical modifications across the facility. A key modification was the addition of a step-down gearbox to TMG's custom transmission testing system. This was aimed at improving the accuracy of test lab evaluations by replicating the loads, pressures, and operating temperatures present in the gearbox environment.
