A zinc coating with electrical conductivity is formed, similar to zinc plating, and the zinc acts as a sacrificial anode to protect the iron from rust.
Research on rust prevention had already been conducted in 1942 at the Cambridge Metallurgical Research Institute in the UK, revealing that to achieve rust prevention equivalent to that of zinc plating, more than 95% zinc was required in the dry paint film. The Robal series is a high-concentration zinc powder coating (zinc-rich paint) designed based on these findings, containing as much as 96% zinc powder in the Robal and Epobal coatings. (However, Robal Silver is designed with 83% zinc content, and Robal Alpha with 92% zinc content.) Therefore, when the Robal series is applied, it creates a zinc coating with electrical conductivity similar to that of zinc plating, with zinc acting as a sacrificial anode to prevent rust on iron. This rust prevention method of the Robal series features the characteristic that rust does not spread from even the smallest pinholes or scratches in the coating. ● For more details, please download the catalog or contact us.
