The portable OTDR (LOR-200, 220) from Swiss company Luciol Instruments boasts high resolution and high dynamic range, utilizing photon counting detection technology. It is used not only for testing and troubleshooting PON lines and optical device assembly tests in the telecommunications market but has also recently been adopted as a standard for applications in oil and gas drilling facilities and for maintenance and troubleshooting of in-flight optical fiber harnesses at Airbus. The A4-sized housing panel features a 10.4" color TFT display and various operation switches, making it user-friendly with an embedded PC and measurement software that includes analysis functions. (Measurement data can be saved to compact flash memory.) Compared to existing OTDR products, it excels in sensitivity, resolution, and dynamic range characteristics, achieving a separation/event dead zone of 10cm or 20cm and an attenuation dead zone of 40cm or 50cm (the former for LCR-220 and the latter for LCR-200). Power can be supplied via AC/DC or an internal battery, allowing for use both indoors and outdoors. Additionally, optional features such as an optical power meter and a microscope function for checking fiber end faces can be added.
