Global warming has caused significant changes in the state of the Earth's oceans. All changes, including shifts in sea temperature, ocean current patterns, and ocean acidification, could have dramatic effects on the distribution, migration, and behavior of manta rays, as well as on the coral reefs that support their lives. Investigating the relationship between manta ray distribution and migration and large-scale oceanic changes will help researchers monitor and assess the health of the oceans on our planet.

**Volunteer Roles** - Take photographs for individual identification of manta rays, process the images for the database, and compare them with existing photos for identification. - Set up underwater receiving stations to record the movements of manta rays tagged with acoustic tags, and use underwater microphones to investigate the presence or absence of manta vocalizations. - Investigate the feeding habits of manta rays by collecting plankton samples and analyzing them by towing plankton nets from a boat at various diving locations and offshore. - As part of behavioral research, create a catalog of manta ray behaviors (ethogram: extracting specific behavioral patterns unique to that species). Volunteers will film manta ray behaviors to be added to the catalog. - During behavior observation, record instances where manta rays are found with different species of cleaning fish (such as cleaner wrasses that eat parasites off the bodies of large fish) and map the locations around coral reefs where they are cleaned.
