The seismic condition of school facilities and the necessity for non-structural component inspections.

Starting from the fiscal year 2025, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has included projects solely focused on seismic inspections of non-structural components in the recruitment program for subsidies for private school facility improvements under the emergency special promotion project for strengthening disaster prevention functions. Similar measures are expected to be implemented in fiscal year 2026 as well.
Due to damage from falling ceiling materials and other so-called "non-structural component" damages caused by large-scale earthquakes, a guidebook titled "To Protect Children from Falling Objects and Collapsing Items Due to Earthquakes - A Guidebook for Seismic Reinforcement of Non-Structural Components in School Facilities" was created in March 2010. Many schools have made progress in this area, and in March 2015, a revised edition of the guidebook was published to further promote seismic measures for non-structural components.
In this seminar, we will explain the necessity of inspections based on the "Revised Guidebook for Seismic Reinforcement of Non-Structural Components in School Facilities." We encourage you to utilize this seminar as an opportunity to gather information.
