About the Calibration of Thermometers at WIKA - Meaning and Necessity

ビカ・ジャパン ビカ・ジャパン
Calibration is not performed using the same testing method for all cases. The choice of testing method varies based on various factors such as process conditions, quality standards, and safety requirements. Depending on the testing method, it is also possible to demonstrate that the calibration item has a measurement accuracy that is twice as precise. This becomes an extremely important factor in enhancing process efficiency. Calibrating temperature measuring instruments is essential for various reasons and meanings. The calibration of thermocouples and resistance temperature detectors is becoming increasingly important in light of recent material shortages and the need for manufacturing process efficiency. Improving measurement accuracy leads to savings in materials and reductions in pollutant emissions, and the calibration of thermometers is also related to safety. For example, if the measuring instruments on a production line do not display correct values and process control is erroneous, there is a risk of accidents or quality defects. The importance of calibration is evident in everyday examples, such as household gas and water consumption meters and fuel gauges at service station fuel pumps. For these reasons, regular calibration of temperature measuring instruments is necessary to reconfirm the reliability of measurement values and to assess changes over time. When accuracy or operation becomes questionable, consider readjusting or replacing the thermometer.

[WIKA Technical Information] About the International Temperature Scale ITS-90 Calibration Service

WIKA can perform calibrations in accordance with the international temperature scale ITS-90 and issue ILAC-MRA calibration certificates.

WIKA offers a variety of temperature calibration services. It is important to adhere to traceability in accordance with international standards when conducting calibrations. For high-precision calibration standards used in factories and laboratories, it is necessary to use even more precise references. One method is fixed-point calibration based on the International Temperature Scale ITS-90. This calibration utilizes specific points such as the melting points and triple points of substances. These specific points are extremely reproducible and stable, allowing for high accuracy to be achieved. At WIKA's German facility, it is possible to set the triple point of silver, the triple point of water, the melting point of gallium, the melting point of tin, the melting point of zinc, and the melting point of aluminum, enabling calibration between -38.8344 °C and 660.323 °C.

WIKA Technical Information: Methods for Improving Overall Uncertainty in Dry Well Temperature Calibration Baths

By using a dry well temperature calibration bath, a high-precision thermometer, and a high-precision Pt100 temperature sensor, high-precision temperature calibration becomes possible.

WIKA provides solutions to minimize uncertainty in dry well temperature calibrators. The uncertainty, which affects accuracy, can increase due to various factors such as the surrounding environment and measuring instruments. The maximum value obtained by summing all these uncertainties is referred to as "combined uncertainty." WIKA offers high-precision temperature calibrators from the CTD9350 and CTD9100 series, as well as high-precision thermometers like the CTR3000 and temperature resistance probes like the CTP5000, to reduce combined uncertainty during calibration work. By using these solutions, it also becomes possible to calibrate high-precision resistance thermometers.

[Video Introduction] What is the accuracy of pressure sensors? ~Three types of errors~

It explains the accuracy of pressure sensors and the important factors that affect accuracy, such as zero point error, span error, and non-linearity.

What does the accuracy of a pressure sensor mean, and how does the inaccuracy that leads to errors in the desired measurement results arise? This video explains the most important elements related to the accuracy of pressure sensors: zero point error, span error, and non-linearity. The interaction of errors such as zero point error, span error, non-linearity, hysteresis, and reproducibility is referred to as "accuracy." The term "accuracy" is frequently used in documents such as product specifications, but it is not clearly defined in standards. Unfortunately, there is no common understanding of what "accuracy" means. In reality, there are various related data points rather than a single "accuracy." All of these collectively represent "accuracy." The elements related to the accuracy of pressure sensors are standardized. For example, measurement errors include systematic and random components, so the numerical value of accuracy is determined statistically. It is necessary to distinguish between the measurement errors displayed as "maximum" and "standard." In the case of maximum error, the majority of the delivered products should have errors smaller than the maximum error. If there is a description of "typ.," the error may be several times the specified "standard" error.

[Video Introduction] What is the difference between general calibration and ISO 17025 accredited calibration?

It clearly explains the differences between general calibration and ISO 17025 accredited calibration, as well as considerations regarding traceability and the issuance of calibration certificates.

Your measuring instrument can be checked for accuracy and calibrated at the WIKA calibration lab. Calibration can be performed either as a general calibration or as an ISO 17025 accredited calibration. The results of both types of calibration will be documented in a calibration certificate, and a calibration sticker will be affixed to the calibrated instrument. Only ISO 17025 accredited calibrations guarantee that testing is conducted using testing equipment certified by an international accreditation body. The traceability diagram is structured to show the hierarchy from the standard instruments used in the inspection factory to the test standards and national standards. Measurement uncertainty is documented by clarifying not only the factors of measurement error such as hysteresis and variation but also measurement deviation and the uncertainty of the reference instruments. Compared to general calibration, ISO 17025 accredited calibration is more accurate, broadly applicable, and internationally recognized. For general calibration, the instrument difference is determined by considering only hysteresis. The calibration performed at the time of factory shipment is issued as an inspection certificate in accordance with DIN / EN 10204.

Temperature Calibration Bus CTB9000 【Range: -40 to +255°C】

Accuracy: ±0.2K, Resolution: 0.1, Temperature range: Calibration bus capable of temperature setting from -40 to +255°C.

The CTB9000 is a higher model of the dry well temperature calibrators in the CTD9100 and CTD9300 series. In dry well temperature calibrators, the shallow insertion depth can cause thermal conduction errors, increasing measurement uncertainty; however, when the stem length is less than 70 mm, this product can resolve that issue. Additionally, improvements have been made for calibrating multiple probes simultaneously, allowing for the calibration of thermometers with different stem lengths together. You can choose from two temperature ranges: -35 ... +165 °C and 40 ... 225 °C, with an option to support up to 255 °C. The CTB9100 achieves a reduction in thermal conduction errors and measurement uncertainty by controlling the temperature of a liquid tank with a diameter of 60 mm and a depth of 150 mm. Calibration temperature can be easily and very quickly controlled using two keys on the controller. The actual temperature and the set temperature can be displayed simultaneously on a large four-digit high-contrast LCD, significantly reducing human errors due to reading inaccuracies.

Drywell Temperature Calibration Bus CTD9100-ZERO

Accuracy: 0.1 K (0.05 K at 0°C), display resolution: 0.1°C, temperature range: -10 … 0 … +100 °C temperature calibration bus.

The CTD9100 is particularly ideal for on-site calibration applications, and its user-friendly, compact, and lightweight design allows it to be easily transported and used anywhere. By enabling easy regular calibration of temperature probes, it can reduce production downtime due to failures. The freezing point calibrator not only operates at 0°C but also allows for simultaneous calibration at other test temperatures thanks to its active cooling feature. As a product concept, it combines a stable temperature source with high-precision Pt100 temperature measurement, making the calibration of industrial temperature probes more efficient and quicker. This calibration bath can be easily set to cold junction temperatures for extended periods, simplifying the calibration of thermocouples. It not only eliminates the complexities of conventional water fixed-point cells but also mitigates the risk of freezing or damage during transport. The design and control mechanism maintain a uniform temperature distribution within the block. This ensures that temperature variations do not occur across the seven test holes, allowing for a consistent temperature distribution environment and reducing the impact of measurement uncertainty.

High-precision dry well temperature calibration bath CTD9100

Accuracy: 0.15 ... 0.25 K, Resolution: 0.001℃, Temperature Range: -55 ... +200 °C high-precision temperature calibration bus.

The CTD9100 is particularly ideal for on-site calibration and is a very user-friendly temperature calibrator. Its compact and lightweight design allows for easy transport and use anywhere. A major feature is the combination of a stable heat source and high-precision Pt100 temperature measurement, which enables even more efficient calibration using temperature probes. By regularly monitoring the temperature probes, it allows for quick detection of failures and helps reduce downtime. Calibration can be performed using a temperature-controlled metal block and interchangeable inserts. Calibration temperatures can be quickly set using just two buttons, and the actual temperature and set temperature are displayed simultaneously on a large, high-contrast four-digit LCD, preventing misreading. Thermometers with different sheath diameters can be inserted into the calibrator using the included inserts. Additionally, the unique block design significantly improves uniformity in the low-temperature range, resulting in very small measurement uncertainty. Furthermore, the calibration bus allows for a 150 mm insertion, greatly reducing heat dissipation errors.

Heating and cooling compatible temperature calibration bus CTB9400, CTB9500

Accuracy: ±0.02K, Resolution: 0.1℃, Temperature range: Heating and cooling calibration bus capable of temperature settings from -45 to +300 °C.

The CTB9400 and CTB9500 are the ideal temperature calibration baths for calibrating temperature probes regardless of location. When performing calibration, the test thermometer and reference thermometer are inserted into the calibration bath under the same temperature conditions. After reaching a stable temperature, the displayed values are read, or the output signals are measured for comparison calibration with the standard thermometer. To minimize measurement uncertainty in this comparison, a temperature control unit that ensures a uniform temperature distribution and constant temperature within the calibration range is necessary. The medium used in the liquid chamber is silicone oil, which has high thermal conductivity, low viscosity, is inert over a wide temperature range, has low vapor pressure, is resistant to chemical decomposition, and is difficult to ignite, in order to maintain a uniform temperature distribution. The temperature range is from -45 to +300°C, with two versions available: CTB9400: 28 to 300 °C CTB9500: -45 to +200 °C The temperature-controlled tank is designed to be 200mm, which is generally said to reduce heat dissipation errors and minimize measurement uncertainty. It is the optimal temperature calibration bath for calibrating temperature probes regardless of location.

Multi-functional Temperature Calibration Bus CTM9100-150

Accuracy: ±0.2K, Resolution: 0.1, Multi-functional temperature calibration bus capable of temperature setting in the range of -35 to +165°C.

The CTx9100 series portable calibrator is particularly suitable for on-site calibration, and its very compact design and lightweight make it easy to carry and use anywhere. Using dry well calibrators or micro-calibration baths for calibrating surface thermometers or non-contact thermometers may lead to incorrect values as they are not optimal applications, but with the CTM9100-150, you can confidently use such temperature calibrators. By using the included accessories and simply operating the keys and toggle switch, it can be calibrated as contact (TC, Pt, surface) or non-contact (infrared), and you can easily switch between four types of temperature calibration functions. Calibration temperature can be easily adjusted using two keys on the controller, allowing for very rapid control. The actual temperature and the set temperature can be displayed simultaneously on a large four-digit high-contrast LCD screen, minimizing the chances of misreading. Its very compact design and lightweight make it ideal for on-site calibration, allowing it to be carried and used anywhere.

HK-2

Recommended for earthquake measures for automatic doors and equipment! Seismic device HK-2.

  • NEW
  • PRODUCT

Japan is one of the top 10 countries in the world with frequent earthquakes. The 2020 White Paper on Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has also reported an increase in the probability of major earthquakes occurring. Regarding the Nankai Trough earthquake, the probability of an earthquake with a magnitude of 8 to 9 occurring within the next 30 years is estimated to be 70 to 80%. At Hotron, we recommend the introduction of seismic devices for earthquake countermeasures in buildings and equipment. The seismic device 'HK-2' is a product that automatically performs various controls that have been pre-set when it detects strong shaking equivalent to a seismic intensity of 5 lower or higher. For example, it can automatically execute actions such as: "Open automatic doors and gates to secure evacuation routes and access for emergency vehicles" "Transmit signals to the control room and stop facility equipment" "Unlock the keys to locked lockers" "Automatically play voice guidance" For more details, please download the materials or contact us.
